Throughout this activity students are required


to develop an understanding between rules
and laws. This activity requires the students to
engage in discussion through question the
purpose of rules and laws within society.

Instructions
1. Get into small groups of 4 children
2. Discuss the differences between rules and laws
What are rules/laws made for?
Who makes the rules/laws?
Why do we have them?
3. Read through the rules and laws slips
4. Discuss which ones you think are rules
5. Discuss which ones you think are laws
6. Separate them into two groups rules and laws

8. Finally discuss the importance of rules

Modifications for Diverse Learners:

Through using small groups students are able to assist one another in reading and
comprehending text. Some of the slips use basic language; therefore cater to low reading levels.
Applying scaffolding questions also assist in extending ideas and knowledge on the topic.

Rules and Laws


Students must wear the approved school or sporting uniform to and
from school and at any school-related activity
The wearing of jewellery or body adornments in any form is
prohibited.
Attendance by students at school camps is compulsory.
No running inside, walking feet must be used
Throwing anything (rubbish) on the streets is not allowed
Driving a car without seat belts is not allowed
Riding your bicycle without a helmet is prohibited
