Ergonomics is designing or to design equipment, systems, tools,
workstations, etc. that suit one person or one type of people. If the design of
the equipment, system, tool, or workstation doesnt suit or fit you, it could
result in minor or major injury.
One of the injuries that could result in incorrect or poorly designed or
practiced ergonomics is Musculoskeletal Disorder. It is a disorder related to
muscles, joints, nerves, and tendons.
At a computer workstation, there are ergonomic risks such as
repetition, awkward postures, and maintaining a position for a long time, and
eyestrain. Different people have different experiences, symptoms, and
responses to ergonomic risk factors.
The computer at ones workstation should have its monitor in a straight, eye
level position. One should sit in a standard normal sitting position with their
wrists in a naturally relaxed and straight manner; Their elbows should be
bent at about a right angle and shoulders should be relaxed but not slouched
or raised.
