Charlotte Town
Conference was
originally a
conference used to
discuss a possible
maritime union
between the maritime
colonies. The Great
Coalition John A.
Macdonald, George
Cartier and George
Brown arrived and
tried to sell the
maritime leaders the
idea of a
Confederation. The
Great Coalition bring
over hundred bottles
of wine (worth
$13,000) hoping that
they could convince
the maritime colonies
to join confederation.
Maritime
leaders later agreed
that Confederation is
possible if suitable

be built. Prince
Edward Island wanted
money to buy back
lands held by
absentee landowners.
However
Newfoundland found
it hard to be join

they barely benefit
from the
confederation.
The leaders of
like maritime colonies
later went back to
their colonies
