First, a poem must be magical

by Jose Garcia Villa

First, a poem must be magical,
Then musical as a sea-gull.
It must be a brightness moving
And hold secret a bird's flowering.
It must be slender as a bell,
And it must hold fire as well.
It must have the wisdom of bows
And it must kneel like a rose.
It must be able to hear
The luminance of dove and deer.
It must be able to hide
What it seeks, like a bride.
And over all I would like to hover
God, smiling from the poem's cover.

A simple sentence normally contains one statement (known as a main

clause).
A compound sentence contains two or more clauses of equal status,
which are normally joined by a conjunction such as and or but.
A complex sentence is also made up of clauses, but in this case the
clauses are not equally balanced. They contain a main clause and one
or more subordinate clauses.
A subordinate/ dependent clause depends on a main clause for its
meaning. Together with a main clause, a subordinate clause forms part
of a complex sentence.
A phrase is a group of words without a subject-verb component, used
as a single part of speech.

A gerund is a verbal-a word that is formed from a verb and retains certain
characteristics of a verb (e.g., tenses, the ability to take an object) but no longer
functions as that part of speech. A gerund always functions as a noun. It is
formed by adding "ing" to the verb.
Because a gerund functions as any other noun does, we must use the possessive
case of nouns that modify it.
