3D printing is an additive manufacturing process that builds 3D objects layer by layer from a digital file. ExOne uses binder jetting technology, which deposits a liquid binding agent into powder layers to join the particles together to form an object. This allows for printing of complex parts from durable industrial materials. Metal and sand 3D printing are also discussed, where metal printing creates the final part and sand printing makes a mold or core for traditional casting. The advantages of 3D printing are the ability to create anything that can be designed digitally and less labor required compared to other manufacturing processes.

Introduction and process:

3D printing is a manufacturing process that build layers to create a
three-dimensional solid object from a digital model. 3D printing can produce
parts with geometric features that cannot be accomplished by other
manufacturing processes ExOne builds functional 3D objects from the
bottom up, one layer at a time with durable, industrial-strength materials.
ExOne 3D printing systems selectively bind thin, cross-sectional layers of
fine powder. As the printhead passes over the powder bed, binder is
deposited into the powder. The powder bed lowers and is coated with
another layer of the print powder. With each successive pass of the
printhead, more of the object is bound until a near-net shape object is
completed.ExOne uses Binder Jetting technology to 3D print complex parts in
industrial-grade materials.
Binder Jetting is an additive manufacturing
process in which a liquid binding agent is selectively deposited to join
powder particles. Layers of material are then bonded to form an object. The
printhead strategically drops binder into the powder. The job box lowers and
another layer of powder is then spread and binder is added. Over time, the
part develops through the layering of powder and binder.

Metal printing:
In this type the part printed is the required part itself.

Sand printing:
In this type we print the mold or the core first and then carry out

traditional casting process to create the part we desire.

Advantages:
1) we can print anything we think of because we only have to create a file in
maya or solid works e.t.c.
2) less labor work required than other processes.

Note: Ex-one is the name of the company which manufactures 3-D

printers.
