The experiment started by preparing a pulverized chalk of uniform sizes. This


was attained by using the Tyler Mesh size 28. Three types of slurries were prepared at
different concentrations (20 g/L, 30 g/L and 40 g/L). The prepared slurry was added
with a few drops of Red dye to make the interface more visible. Then, the slurry was
introduced into the sedimentation apparatus and the single batch settling test was
performed. The initial height of the interface was recorded and at a 2-minute interval,
observed height of interface between the liquor and suspended solids were recorded
until all the solids were practically settled. Only one trial was done per concentration.
The similar steps were followed for the next 2 concentrations.
