    Between 1961-1963, sculptor and designer Walter Pichler created 20 sketches exploring radical ideas for future city and architectural designs. His sketches proposed underground cities housed in single units buried below ground or continuous sculptural landscapes. Dwellings might be communication cells, emotive caves or watchtowers. Sacred spaces could be constructed from collisions of monumental forms. Pichler's sketches asked more questions than solutions and blurred lines between art and architecture, mechanical and organic forms, and the idealistic and ironic. They influenced the later work of architects like Superstudio.
