Engineering Mechanics
Engineering Mechanics
Engineering Mechanics
To develop capacity to predict the effect of force and motion in the course
of carrying out the design functions of engineering.
To understand the core concepts including mechanics, kinematics,
structural analysis.
To learn the "building blocks" of statics, dynamics, strength of materials,
and fluid dynamics and also to give solution for mechanics problems
through the integrated application of mathematical, scientific, and
engineering principles.

A cylindrical pipe of diameter 1.5
m and thickness 1.5 cm is
subjected to an internal fluid
pressure of 1.2N/ mm2. Determine
longitudinal stress developed in the
pipe,
circumferential
stress
developed in the pipe
Important key points
t/d ratio = less than 1/20 hence this
is a case of thin cylinder
