Procedure for Shaft bent repair (stainless steel)

1- For tapper end bent first do DPI test in key way area, other no need for
DPI
2- Shaft Trueness check for the bent length and mark up max. deflection
and points of zero deflection (to investigate deflected span if its
localized)
3- Fix on hydraulic machine and set up alignment reference points
4- Preheat to be applied on a span equal to half of deflected span and
centered on max. deflection point
5- Preheat to a temperature of 600 degrees (dark red glow point)
6- Use hydraulic press to achieve P pressure gradually and not sudden
load
P= (6UZ/2000L)
P
pressure load in tons
U
Ultimate strength of the stainless steel (psi)
Z
section models
L
length between supports under shaft (span of bent area)
7- Check to reference points and check soundness of deflection
8- Repeat the process till achieve zero deflection
9- For tapper end bent first do DPI test in key way area, other no need for
DPI

Procedure for Shaft welding build up (stainless

steel)
1- Secure shaft and archive the min. length of unsupported span of weld
area
2- Preheat till 350 degrees for the welding area and 150 for HAZ
3- Build up process should be equally distributed on both ends of welding
area i.e. one pass from one end then on pass from the other end to
achieve min. distortion
4- After completion of buildup, machining takes place
5- Trueness check for the whole shaft length with min. L/6 no. of points
