Symbology used in the Parts List section is identified in the Symbology section.

This index lists all the spared parts in the machine in numerical order. Each number is followed
by a reference to the parts list on which the part may be found.

Service Procedure Referencing

If a part or assembly has an associated repair or adjustment procedure, the procedure number
will be listed at the end of the part description in the parts lists e.g. (REP 5.1, ADJ 5.3)

Abbreviations
Abbreviations are used in the parts lists and the exploded view illustrations to provide
information in a limited amount of space. The following abbreviations are used in this manual:

Introduction

Subsystem Information
Use of the Term Assembly
The term assembly will be used for items in the part number listing that include other itemized
parts in the part number listing. When the word assembly is found in the part number listing,
there will be a corresponding item number on the illustrations followed by a bracket and a
listing of the contents of the assembly.

Brackets
A bracket is used when an assembly or kit is spared, but is not shown in the illustration. The
item number of the assembly or kit precedes the bracket; the item numbers of the piece parts
follow the bracket.

Tag
The notation W/Tag in the parts description indicates that the part configuration has been
updated. Check the change Tag index in the General Information section of the Service Data
for the name and purpose of the modification.
In some cases, a part or assembly may be spared in two versions: with the Tag and without the
Tag. In those cases, use whichever part is appropriate for the configuration of the machine on
which the part is to be installed. If the machine does not have a particular Tag and the only
replacement part available is listed as W/Tag, install the Tag kit or all of the piece parts. The
Change Tag Index tells you which kit or piece parts you need.
Whenever you install a Tag kit or all the piece parts that make up a Tag, mark the appropriate
number on the Tag matrix.

Symbology
A Tag number within a circle pointing to an item number shows that the part has been changed
by the tag number within the circle (Figure 1). Information on the modification is in the Change
Tag Index.

A Tag number within a circle having a shaded bar and pointing to an item number shows that
the configuration of the part shown is the configuration before the part was changed by the Tag
number within the circle (Figure 2).

Purpose
The purpose of this kit is to provide instructions for
securing a Bearing Collar to the left end of the fuser
heat roll with two (2) screws. This will prevent the
bearing collar from sliding out from the outer metal
bearing causing damage to fuser components.

Procedure
Check off the following steps as they are performed:
WARNING
Do not perform repair activities with the power
switched on or electrical power supplied to the
machine. Some machine components contain
dangerous electrical voltages that can result in
electrical shock and possible serious injury.
CAUTION
Certain components in this procedure are
susceptible to damage from electrostatic
discharge. Observe all ESD procedures to
avoid component damage.
__ 1. Power down the 6279 system: select Machine
Information, select Administration tab, select
General Administration, select
Shutdown/Restart and select System
Shutdown. Wait for the green power light on
the Accxes Controller to turn off.
__ 2. Switch off the Printer Main Switch and the
Circuit Breaker and allow the Fuser Assembly to
cool.

__ 3. Disconnect the Printer power cord.

NOTE
To gain the required access to the back of the 6279
Wide Format, remove the installed Catch Trays,
Document Return Guides, etc., based on the machine
configuration. If a finisher is installed, either push it
away (stacker) or raise the bridge (folder).
WARNING
Do not handle the fuser components until they have
cooled. Some fuser components operate at hot
temperatures and can produce serious injury if
touched.
CAUTION
Do not touch the Heat Rods with your bare hands. If a
Heat Rod becomes contaminated with oil or grease,
the life of the Heat Rod may be shortened. Clean when
necessary with Film Remover.
__ 4.

Refer to the 6279 Wide Format Service CD

(REP 10.8). Perform step #2a for a
Printer/Copier or perform #2b for a Printer.

__ 5. Remove the Duct Plate. Refer to the 6279 Wide

Format Service CD (REP 10.1).
__ 6. Remove the Fuser Cover Assembly. Refer to the
6279 Wide Format Service CD (REP 10.2).
__ 7. Remove the Thermistor Plate. Refer to the 6279
Wide Format Service CD (REP 10.4).
__ 8. Unplugged the Heat Rod connectors and
removed the mounting brackets at both ends.

__ 9. Slid the Heat Rods towards the right side of the

machine about six inches. This should allow
enough space to work on the left end of the
fuser.
__ 10. Open the Clam Shell.

__ 15. Using a lint free cloth in one hand prevent the

Heat Roll from moving and slide the Bearing
Collar (insulator), provided in the kit, onto the
left end of Heat Roll. Figure 2

__ 11. Using two (2) of the screws removed earlier in

this procedure, set the Fuser in the shipping
position. Refer to the 6279 Wide Format
Service CD (REP10.8) and perform step #11.
__ 12. Remove the Fuser Bias Contact Plate Assembly.
Refer to the 6279 Wide Format Service CD (REP
10.8) and perform step #14a.
__ 13. Remove the Sleeve which is inserted into the
left end of the Fuser Roll. Refer to the 6279
Wide Format Service CD (REP 10.8) and
perform step #14b.
__ 14. Remove the Bearing Collar (insulator). Figure 1

__ 16. Align the two (2) holes in the Bearing Collar
with the two (2) holes in the Heat Roll. Figure 3

CAUTION
When rotating the Heat Roll only turn it in the
direction shown in Figure 1.

__ 17. Reinsert the sleeve into the Heat Roll. Align the
threaded holes of the sleeve with the holes
aligned in the previous step. Figure 4

__ 18. Secure these components with the two (2)
screws provided in the kit. Figure 5
NOTE
After the first screw is installed a small Allen Wrench
can be inserted in the 2nd screw hole to aid in
alignment and installation of the 2nd screw.

cloth.
__ 20. Reassemble all remaining components in
reverse order.

Install new buttons, replace the foam backing

material as follows:
a. Peal the white mylar backer off the foam
exposing the adhesive side. Place the adhesive
side against the mounting surfaces (b and c).
b. Affix one foam piece on the rear cover as
shown.

assembly as shown.

Reassemble and install the Display. Refer to

REP 2.1 if necessary.

__ 8.

Reconnect the Power Cord and Power ON the

machine.

__ 9.

Enter service diagnostics and select the User

Interface Tab. A series of grey boxes
corresponding to each button appear along the
lower edge of the screen.

__ 10. Actuate each button insuring its respective menu

screen box highlights with a check mark. This is
confirmation the system is receiving input from
the display button.

NOTE: Locate the GFI port on the rear of the machine.

If Phillips head screws are present proceed to step 1, if
stand offs are installed no further activity is required
__ 1. Power down the Printer using the Power Off

(0) Switch.
__ 2. Disconnect the power cords from the

customers power receptacle.

__ 3. Remove the (2) Phillips screws retaining the

GFI communication port. Use care not drop

screws as they could fall into the machine.

Caution:
Do not overtighten stand offs as they can easily
strip the seating threads.
__ 5. Connect the Printer Power cord to the AC
power source and power up the machine.
__ 6. Confirm the printer operation.
__ 7. Mark Off IOT Tag 102
