What has attracted you to teaching P.E?
My interest in sport and be able to teach skills I
have learned previously to children.
What sort of teacher of P.E do you want to
be?
I want to be motivating and encouraging,
making sure students who already know the
skill strive to improve, and that students who
don't know the skill feel comfortable and
motivated to perform to the best of their ability.

What was enjoyable about the practical

It was something different to what I am used to.
The act of learning new skills was enjoyable.

Teaching by task. The teacher showed us a
demonstration, gave an introduction to the skill
and let us perform the skill.

I believe that teaching for a combination of
enjoyment and learning would benefit students
the most. Students enjoying themselves whilst
participating in the task at hand, would more
likely stay engaged for longer which would
therefore encourage learning to take place.

What are the advantages and disadvantages


of the command approach for some
teaching?
Advantages: Beginners are all on the same
page, it is appropriate for activities with high
risk, it outlines the behaviour expectations, and
it is a great visual approach to learning.

Disadvantages: The student can lose


interest/motivation, it doesn't recognise the
diversity of learners, it restricts students
creativity, and it may limit in depth learning.
What was learnt by the students (you) in
the activities that you have just experienced
in workshop 3?
The first skill we learnt in the workshop today
was the tennis serve. This was broken down
into 3 different steps, which makes learning the
skill simple for younger children, in this case it
was year 5s. The first step was the throwing
action of the ball, cancelling out the swinging
action to focus thoroughly on the throw itself.
Secondly, the basic swinging movement with
ball connection. And finally the combination of
all movements to create the full serving motion.

What was learnt by the students (you) in


the activities that you have just experienced
in workshop 3?
Within the workshop I learnt more than just the
skill being taught. Russells interpretation of the
skill was a great example for the upcoming
assignment and gave me a greater
understanding of what must occur to be
successful. By giving a demonstration of the
command approach within a teaching session,
it also made understanding this pedagogy
easier for me.

of learning using the Task Approach?
Advantages: Every student is on the same
page, whether they had learnt the skill before or
were new to the skill. The teacher was able to
reflect on the students ability. It freed up the
teacher so he could work with individual
students.

Disadvantages: Loss of interest due to ability or


inability to perform skill. Supervision limitations
(behaviour management). restricted creativity.

Advantages: Every student is on the same
page, students become hands on, learning
through doing, the teacher is able to reflect on
the students ability, it frees up the teacher so
he/she can work with individual students.

Having three peers teach a different skill using
command and/or teaching by task, it helped
broaden my understanding of these terms.
Being a student within the class I was a able to
view the pedagogy in use from a different
perspective.

What did you learn?
Today I learnt the Netball Chest Pass, the AFL
Handball, and the Volleyball Set. In terms of
pedagogies, I learnt that a combination can be
used. Prior to these Module 1 lesson plans I
thought that only the one pedagogy could be
used throughout, however after today I can see
otherwise. This will help me with my Module 1

What did you learn?


Basketball Set Shot, Cricket Straight Drive,
Football Kick, and Volleyball Spike. It was
interesting to see how command and teaching
by task can be used within different sports.
Although they are the used solely by the
teacher it is still interesting to see the
difference.

What were the most important points raised by
your colleagues about you Module 1 teaching?
Class arrangement, placement, and schedule were
good. However, I only ran through safety precautions
throughout and towards the end of the 15 minutes.
My peers suggested that it would have been more
beneficial at the start of the session.

How did providing feedback to your colleagues


help you to reflect on your own teaching?
By providing feedback to my peers on what I thought
they could have done better or what I thought was
done well, I was then able to focus on what I could
have done better myself. By recognising other peers
errors or success I was able to relate these to my
own teaching and investigate what I could have
done better to improve.

activities?
Being given the opportunity to choose 6 of our
own skipping styles to develop as we gain more
confidence. More so in the basketball layup drill,
where we were put into groups depending on
our ability level, is where I really started to
gather the understanding of Individual
Progression.

Very little feedback from the teacher, more so
individual/personal feedback.

to include problem solving and guided
discovery into my Module 2 teaching plan. I
believe these encourage the student to think

learnt that Problem Solving is the most

learnt through the balance, travel and flight
activities, where we were to teach the visual of
a balance to our partner.

I believe to be a successful teacher a
combination of pedagogies should be used.
However, I believe the most beneficial
pedagogy for a student and my most preferred
would be problem solving.

I say this because it allows for creativity,
encourages critical thinking, and encourages
children to work together, which are all
important traits in making a classroom

By creating a fun atmosphere in the classroom it
allows the students to enjoy themselves, as well
