PRESSURE VESSEL REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Cut window in shell ???” long by ???” (Refer to PV Drawing)


wide (should be cut out in rectangular pattern, preferred
method, not square), (shell lay out were cuts are to be made to be
performed prior to cutting), make cuts by gouging (air arc) into
shell approximately 5/8” & then grinding window the rest of the
way out (air grinder). Corners must be rounded. Take special
caution to not introduce any foreign debris into shell.
2. Perform internal repair.

3. Prepare shell for plug by beveling shell 30. Plug plate for window
to be prepared in the same manner 30 bevel all the way around.
(Original cut out can be used; caution must be taken to ensure
that too much material is not removed during initial cut out).
4. Internal inspection to be performed to ensure no foreign material is
remaining in shell prior to closing plug. Acceptance
____________.
5. Fit & tack plate using ¼” backing strip leaving 1/8” root gap.
6. Weld root gap using approved ASME welding procedure (full
penetration).
7. Dye penetrate check root pass. Approval ________.
8. Complete weld out of plate using approved ASME welding
procedure. Record weld wire heat number __________ & welder
identification _________.
9. Grind completed weld flush with shell.
10.Dye penetrate check finished weld. Approval __________.
11.Pneumatic test shell @ 1.1 times MAWP as per NBIC (RC 2051).
12.Pressure test to be witnessed by 3rd part inspection agency

13.Record gauges _________ & ______________.
3rd part inspection shall witness the job to complete proper paper work and
submit to the National board.
