HOMICIDE The Grand Rapids Police Department received a call of a stabbing at Division Ave and Hall St S.W., at approximately 0330 a.m., Saturday morning. The call came from an anonymous caller who was present and requesting the police. The caller also indicated that the victim was leaving in a small white vehicle. Officers responded to the area and located the scene in the north east corner of the parking lot of 01 Hall St SW. Grand Rapids Police Dispatch received a call from Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus that two (2) stabbing victims had arrived for treatment. Victim Marte L. Smith, B/M, 22 years, was treated for a stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Spectrum Health. The other injured victim, James Williams, B/M, 26 years, was also treated for stab wounds and is in stable condition. Investigators have determined that both victims had been stabbed after they had approached a large fight occurring in the parking lot. The suspect has been described as a black male, 600, 150 to 160 pounds, wearing a white t-shirt blue jeans and black fitted baseball cap. The Grand Rapids Police Department Major Case Team is investigating this incident further.
