WHAT IS A COMPUTER?

A computer is an electronic device that accepts data as input, processes the data into information, stores and retrieve the process data as output.

COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM

HARDWARE This is the term used for the parts of the computer that you can se and touch. It is the collective name given to all the devices that makeup a computer system. Hardware is consist of peripheral, input, storage and processing devices.

USERS

Anyone who operates a computer to carryout tasks. Users maybe a computer professional or end users such as employees who build and maintain the computer system.

SOFTWARE
These are programs that have organized sets of instructions to make the computer work. These cannot be touched nor seen, only the package.

DATA These are raw facts such as numbers, letters, special characters or symbols. These convey little meaning individually. data is organized in files with the computer. Data is organized in files with the computer. Data is stored in the form of coded electrical impulse called bits. Eight of these bits make a byte which is represented by a character such as a letter.

PROCEDURES

These are instructions that tells a user how to operate and use the information system.

FUNCTIONS OF HARDWARE DEVICES

CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT Arithmetic and Logic Unit performs all the calculation necessary for the computer to operate.

Control Unit- directs the flow of data through the CPU and other devices.

INPUT DEVICES . Input devices are devices that allows data to be transmitted into the computer .
OUTPUT DEVICES Output devices are devices that allow processed information to be sent out of the computer system either on soft or hardcopy .

INPUT & OUTPUT DEVICES

. STORAGE DEVICES Storage devices are used to store information even after the computer is turned off. These include hard disk drive, floppy disk drive, etc. these are usually located within the system of the computer. Contrarily, some of these storage devices are found outside the system of the computer such as, flash drive, mp3 player, compact disk, etc.
