Independent: - Monitor WBC count.

Evaluation
-Elevated total WBC count indicates infection. - To decrease transfer of pathogens. - Hand washing prevents spread of pathogens to other objects and food.
- Wash hands before doing any procedure. - Teach patient how to properly wash hands before and after meals and after using bathroom, bedpan, or urinal. - Instruct patient to report incidents of loose stools or diarrhea.
