Notes In disassembly/(re)assembly, be sure to use conductive mat (J5033) and wrist strap (J5033-5), in order to Before disassmbling, be sure to remove batteries, AC power cord, and battery for clock (CR1616). In disassembling, be sure to memorize the processing state of wires and FPC, screws to be fixed and their types, etc. The low-pass filter of the image PCB is easily damaged. Handle it very carefully. In the chapter of Disassembly, sometimes a large assembly unit is removed. In case such a unit is further disassembled , refer to the exploded technical drawings. In Disassembly/(re)assembly chapters, the dip-proof sponge is not mentined. In case parts are replaced, be sure to attach the dip-proof sponge by referring to the exploded technical drawings. All wires are special parts (supporting UL), so be sure to use specified wires.

F1
F102 F104
*If the memory compression PCB is separated from DC/DC unit 2, the following fuses (except F104 Polyswitch) can be replaced. Phenomenon when fuse or *Polyswitch burns out. F1: Both battery and DC-IN cannot be turned ON. F102: Because there is no power except VBAT and VBT6, the LCD keeps the indications just before burnout of fuses, and also other functions of camera cannot work. *F104: Because there is no output from VCC12 and VCC23, the backlight of TFT cannot light up and TFT shows indications but they can hardly be verified. At the same time, the control panel on top of the camera keeps the indications just before burnout of fuses. As for F104 (Polyswitch), however, if turning the main switch of camera to OFF for a few seconds and then turning to ON, or if removing the battery once and then inserting it again, this Polyswitch recovers its function. So it does not usually burn out (break) permanently, compared with other fuses.

Parallax inspection and adjustment Note: This adjustment should be made after completing "TFT angle-of-view adjustment" of the image adjustment, because the camera is positioned via the TFT monitor screen. When "Separate Prism box from Front body" (Page D20) is performed, be sure to make the adjustment.
Procedure Insert the battery into the camera, and set the exposure mode to "P". Turn the power SW to OFF, and remove the battery. (By this procudere, the camera memorizes the latest set mode in the camera.) Remove the FPC and 2 wires of the top cover, then detach the top cover from the camera. Note: If the FPC of the top cover was removed with the battery being inserted, the power transistor, etc, of DC/DC2 may be burned out. Attach the parallax-inspection chart (J15404) on the wall, etc. Put the CF card and battery into the camera, and mount the lens AF 50/1.4. Position the camera correctly 1 m-distance from the parallax-inspection chart by using the tripod, etc. (ref. Fig. 1.) (Set the optical axis of lens to come in the center of the chart.)

8. Summary
Each adjustment is summarized as follows: (1) Gr/Gb compensation adjustment (G filter) Camera is faced to the light-emitting box (color viewer) of LV13 equiv. with SP2 (G filter) being put between them, and adjustment is made so that the output difference between Gr and Gb in the center 300 300 pixels) can fall in the standard range. (2) Sensitivity adjustment Camera is faced to the color viewer of LV13 equiv. with ND filter (-7 step) being put between them, and adjustment is made by changing the ampgain so that G output can fall in the standard range. The gain value is adjusted so that the G output average value (Average of Gr/Gb) in the center (300300 pixels) can reach the target output level (approx. 600LSB). The actual adjustment of the gain value is made only under the condition of ISO200 and ISO1600, and the medium sensitivity is calculated by the adjustment values of these 2 conditions. For target output level, G output average of sensitivity reference value (ISO200) is used, which was calculated by the reference body. (3) AFE gain adjustment Camera is faced to the color viewer of LV13 equiv. with ND filter (-7 step) being put between them, and adjustment is made by changing the ampgain so that the difference between G channel output and R/B channel output can fall in the standard range. Based on the output ratio among channels (average value of center 300300 pixels) when shots are taken under the condition of ISO200,the gain is adjusted so that each output ratio under the condition of ISO400, ISO800 and ISO1600 becomes the same. (4) Sensitivity ratio adjustment Camera is faced to the color viewer of LV13 equiv., and the adjustment is made so that the R/G, B/G output becomes the same as the output ratio of the sensitivity ratio reference value that was calculated by the reference body. The adjustment is made only under the condition of ISO200, and the average value of the center (300 pixels 300 pixels) is used. (5) Gr/Gb compensation adjustment (R/B filter) Camera is faced to the color viewer of LV13 equiv. with SP3 (R filter) or SP1 (B filter) being put between them, and the adjustment is made so that the difference between G output average of B-G line and the G output average of G-R line of the divided areas on the whole screen can fall in the standard range. (6) Pixel defect compensation Shots are taken on the dark surface. In case the pixel output is found to be beyond the standard value, the detected pixel coordinate is additionally written as the pixel defect compensation data. (7) Linearity adjustment The adjustment is made so that there is no color drift/shift when grey images are taken.

VBA10601-R.3665.A
(8) "Sensitivity" and "Sensitivity ratio" reference values calculation Sensitivity reference value calculation The reference camera body is faced to the color viewer of LV13 equiv. with ND filter (-7 step) being put between them. Then, the G output average value of the center (300 pixels 300 pixels) is stored in the STD.DAT file as the sensitivity reference value. Sensitivity ratio reference value calculation The reference camera body is faced to the color viewer of LV 13 equiv. (without filter). Then, the sensitivity ratio reference value GR and GB is calculated, based on the G/R/B output average of the center (300 pixels 300 pixels), and they are stored in the STD.DAT file. It is necessary to calculate the reference values of "Sensitivity" and "Sensitivity ratio" in order to prevent the color temperature fluctuation caused by color viewer's changes over time from affecting the results of the shooting image adjustment. By using the reference body, calculate the reference values once in about every 3 months, when the fluorescent of the color viewer is replaced. (9) TFT view angle adjustment This is for adjusting the display position of TFT. The adjustment is made by NTSC video mode. (10) Facotry setting By reset the settings of camera, facotry settings are restored. (11) Image-PCB EEPROM flashram up EEPROM value of the image PCB is copied into the flash memory of the memory compression PCB (AK PCB). The flashram up is necessary when the memory compression PCB (AK PCB) is replaced. The shooting image-related adjustment values are stored in EEPROM of the image PCB. However, the camera does not directly access the image PCB EEPROM but it does read out the value, which is stored in the flash memory of the AK PCB of the memory compression PCB, into RAM to operate. Therefore, to reflect the adjustment value, it is necessary to copy the stored value of the image PCB EEPROM into the flash memory. When the shooting image adjustments of each (1) - (5) are completed, the software automatically performs the flashram-up. (12) TFT PCB flashram up EEPROM value of the TFT PCB, as performed in the above image PCB, is copied into the flash memory. It is necessary to flashram up when the TFT PCB is replaced. When the TFT view angle adjustment is completed, the software automatically performs the flashram-up. (13) Reading of RISC version RISC firmware version is displayed. The software displays the version that includes more than 2 places of decimals.

9. Procedure
9-1. Image PCB adjustment
VBA10601-R.3665.A
Calculate the "Sensitivity" and "Sensitivity ratio" reference values by using the reference body beforehand, then perform the adjustments. (ref. 9-3.) For the shooting image adjustment from (1) to (5), perform all of them in this order. The adjustments from (1) through (5) are all programmed to be executed in serial order. When (1) is completed, the software automatically goes on to the next adjustment. In case adjustments are interrupted by NG, it is possible to continue the adjustments again after NG. As for adjustments that were ended with OK, the storage of adjustment values into EEPROM and the flashram-up are completed. Start adjustments Provide the power for the camera via AC adapter. Connect the camera and PC via USB cable. Set the focus mode to M and the mode dial to S of the camera. Turn the camera switch ON. Set the color viewer luminance to LV13 equiv. (1) Gr/Gb compensation adjustment (G filter) Click "Gr/Gb COMPENSATION ADJ (G FILTER)" on the menu. Attach the tool lens (Aperture F8) and SP2 (G filter) to the camera. Get the camera closest to the center of the illuminated surface of the color viewer. The adjustment starts. When it is completed, "OK" is displayed. The software automatically goes on to the next adjustment. In case of NG Remove the USB cable from the camera, and also remove the AC adapter without turning the power switch OFF. The reason for removing the AC adapter without turning the power switch OFF is, to prevent from storing what the software set during adjustments into the camera. Click the adjustment button again and repeat the adjustment. (2) Sensitivity adjustment Click "SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT" of the main menu on screen. Attach the tool lens (Aperture F8) and ND filter (ND 8 1 ND 4 2to the camera. Get the camera closest to the center of the illuminated surface of the color viewer. The adjustment starts.
