Standard 4: Instructional Delivery and Management

Element: 4.5 Utilize managerial rules, routines, and transitions to create and maintain a safe and effective learning environment.

Artifact: EDU 255 Lab C Video Date: Fall 2011

Reflection: In this lab I was teaching the game of Omnikin Ball. Throughout my lesson I discovered not all lessons go as planned. I learned to expect the unexpected when my teacher asked one of the students to participate in a wheel chair. I developed adaption skills and had to manage the class lesson a little differently. As you watch, you will notice I set rules for the students to follow and tried to enforce smooth transitions as well. Because the Omnikin balls are so expensive, I had to create a safe environment for the students to practice in. After watching this video, learning from it, and reflecting on it, I realized it is not always as easy as it seems. This artifact is essential for my development as a teacher because with practice I will continue to advance in providing an effective learning environment. Experiences of teaching, such as this lab, will shape my abilities in becoming more of a natural teacher.
