This Episode 1 provides an opportunity for students to examine and reflect on a

school environment that promotes leaning and development.

TARGET Your Intended Learning Outcome

At the end of this Episode, I must be able to determine the characteristics of a

school environment that is safe, secure, and is supportive of learning (PPST
2.1.1).

1. A physical environment conducive for learning is one that has consistent practices that:
 Keep the school safe, clean, orderly and free from distraction:
 Maintain facilities and provide challenging activities; and
 Address the physical, social and psychological needs of the student.

2. Display boards can be powerful in communicating information about the learning

environment. They help in building and establishing the school culture. These boards
become one way for everyone to learn about the vision-mission, goals, and values that the
school upholds.
3. As a basic part of the school's visual environment, display boards have four general
purposes:
 Decorative- They offer visual stimulation and appeal to aesthetics. They set the
social and psychological atmosphere of the school.
 Motivational- They encourage students to perform better and have greater
confidence. An example would be the display of students' outputs that show that each
output is recognized and valued. The bulletin boards help celebrate the learners'
growth and progress.
 Informational- They are used as a strategy to readily disseminate information.
 Instructional- They move students to respond and participate through interactive
displays. They get students to think about and communicate their learning
4. The set of criteria for evaluating bulletin boards displays includes effective
communication, attractiveness, balance, unity, interactivity, legibility, correctness, and
durability.

To realize the Intended Learning Outcome,

work my way through these steps:

1. Visit a school, look into facilities and support learning in the campus, then in the
classroom
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gathered data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning.
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of these:
a) Descriptive paragraph b) Photo essay
c) Sketch or drawing d) Poem, song or rap

As you move around the campus, observations forms are provided for you to
document your observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before
proceeding to the school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be
accomplished in the activity sheets will yield better learning results.

How do the school campus and classroom in particular impact the

learning of the students going to school? What are your conclusion?

Answer: The facilities of the school campus and the classroom greatly affect the
students that go to school, because if the school and classroom is improper the students
will start to think not to go to school. Even though we are facing this pandemic I know
one day all of this we are facing will disappear and we will back to normal and in that
day school should be prepared.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/how does
this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

Answer: As future educator, by these instances I will know that there are many factors
that can affect the student to attend and not to attend school. And by knowing such
factors, I can adjust to what my students will need.
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

Answer: Yes, It is because the school environment is very accessible, the surroundings is very
peaceful and covered by green pasture that brighten up the day and gives a cool and cozy
environment. Though I only just watching it on a Video still I wanted to teach children there with
my very best.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

Answer: A school that is conductive to learning is a school that has complete facilities that will
surely help and benefited by the student learners to understand the subject matter they are
studying.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

Answer: A classroom that is conducive to learning is a classroom with proper chairs, functioning
electric fans for the comfort of students, all other facilities that will greatly contribute for the
attainment of knowledge of the students and most especially an expert teacher by profession
and by heart.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

Answer: For now, I will study hard so that I can be a good teacher in the future. If I have good
grades and right experiences I have no doubts that I can accomplish to become a compassionate
teacher by mind, heart and soul.

5. Write your additional learnings and insight here.

Answer: I learned that every student has their own reaction to the environment they are in, that’s
why the teacher’s should be complex and flexible to know that.

The display board, or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one
of the most readily available and versatile learning resources.

To achieve the Intended Learning Outcome, work your way through the
steps: 1. Examine for bulletin board displays. Include sample of those found at the
entrance, lobby, hallways and classrooms. 2. Pick one and evaluate the display. 3.
Propose enhancements to make the display more effective.

It has creative images and colorful background which will catch the attentions of elementary students.
There are trivia also.

Internet
Books
Magazine
Student's output

Materials for aesthetic enhancement:

1. Name at least five skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up
with effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.

Answer: A teacher must be creative so that the concepts and content is

always interesting to the students, A teacher must be resourceful so that the
bulletin board will be informative and attractive to the students, A teacher
must have a visual skills so that they can visualize the presentation and
impact what they want to create, and then apply those to the board display,
A teacher must be good in communication so that the words combined in
board display or the content can be understood, Lastly, good teachers make
visual displays organize, the organization includes comparing and
contrasting, grouping and arranging content in a meaningful way.

2. Which of the skills you named in # I do you already have? Recall your past
experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
Answer: I think I am resourceful person. And what I put in my bulletin
board have relation to its theme. What I also put have reliable source.

3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you
take on how you can improve on or acquire these skills?
Answer: The skills I still need to develop are visual skills because I don’t really
visualize things. The first thing I need to do is slowly illustrate what I want in a
bulletin board so I can decide what I will put in my bulletin board.
My Personal Illustration of an Effective
School Environment

My Personal illustration of an effective school environment is

an environment that is structurally built in strong, clean external and in
internal, free from noise of the outside world so that the students will
feel peaceful and concentrated. On the classroom part, one that is
conducive in learning is a classroom that has many charts, posters,
sayings and inspirational quotes as motivation and additional
information to children. Professional leadership must also take place
because the learners always depend to what the teacher instructs. Focus
on teaching and learning are some point that should have to take into
consideration, too. There should have a purposeful teaching, shared
vision and goals, high expectations of all learners, accountability and
learning communities
