But I suspect those who serve the mining industry, in particular, will recognize a few issues in the Coal episodes that they have to deal with on a regular basis. The ups and downs of Cobalt Coal reminded me of a few common lessons we can all learn from to help build more successful businesses and improve the professionalism of our industry. Here are a few of my observations after watching Coal:

Have you watched a crew repeatedly fail to meet production goals, and then delayed replacing workers to the detriment of your bottom line? Have you tried to get by with an inexperienced worker or one with a less-than-stellar attitude when you should have been looking for an upgrade? Good people build more revenue, and you should be seeking them out and paying them a competitive wage to keep them. You have to spend money to make money. Whether it was because money was tight or management miscalculated on the tools they needed to pull coal from the Cobalt mine, it was apparent a few episodes into the show that the company was skimping on equipment. The continuous miner broke down frequently, the bosses realized their portable generation equipment was not providing enough power to run the machine, and that its coal loaders were inadequate. But they neglected to fix the problems until it was almost too late. The miner operators became frustrated by constant breakdowns and the owners were constantly wringing their hands about costs associated with the downtime. They had to know their equipment wasnt up to the task, but it took them a long time to act. When they did finally buy a new Joy Global continuous miner and a larger uniloader, and then hooked up a more powerful Cat generator to run the machines, production picked up, saving the company from ruin. Has this happened to you? Have you held onto aging trucks for too long and wound up disappointing a customer with failed service? Have you had crews sitting on the sideline while you searched frantically to replace a broken machine that you could have addressed with a planned replacement? Have you turned down work in the past year because the job would have required an investment in new equipment? Holding onto depreciated equipment can seem like a sound, conservative business decision, only to blow up in your face due to an inconvenient breakdown. The way equipment was handled in Coal should teach contractors to go into a job knowing what reliable gear youll need to satisfy the customer, and to have a solid

equipment replacement schedule. Your reputation depends on providing prompt, reliable service. Old equipment can derail you. Subcontracting for energy companies creates a pressure cooker atmosphere. At one point in Coal, the mine operators fall behind on the bills and then blame their loyal trucking subcontractor for not hauling loads on snow- and ice-covered roads. Cobalt needed to get a number of truckloads of coal to customers to make a loan payment the following day, but a snowstorm keeps the truckers off the roads. Rather than realize they put themselves in this financial bind, they exhorted the support contractor to run on dangerous roads and keep drivers working well into overtime. Your customers can be very demanding. They can push you hard for services, not realizing they are responsible for extraordinarily difficult circumstances. Thats part of the challenge of your work. Good customers will help forge lucrative, long-lasting relationships with support services contractors, and you want to bend over backwards to help them reach an important goal. But some customers dont offer such rewarding outcomes. Their demands may compromise the safety of your workers, or create undue stress or liability for your company. Its important to know and work with your best customers and realize that some clients are not worth keeping. Clients come and go, and how you manage them can mean the difference between great success and failure. Safety remains a paramount concern. A company with its financial back against the wall might take chances with safety. Cobalt Coal constantly stressed safety by holding start-of-shift safety meetings before workers went into the mine. They showed how air quality is tested in the mine and the various steps supervisors take to prevent hazardous situations. When rumors circulate that one of their workers is using drugs,
GOMC
they perform random testing to ferret out the problem. Despite their best efforts, Cobalt has some brushes with danger. Supervisors find shoddy work by the roof bolters charged with reinforcing the rock overhead deep in the mine. A worker is almost killed by tons of falling debris. Another worker suffers a debilitating back injury that leaves the company working short-handed. And just an aside about safety and Coal, news accounts reported the Mine Safety and Health Administration cited Cobalt Coal for safety violations after federal inspectors watched the show. Like the Cobalt executives, do you struggle daily to maintain safe working conditions, while you hope to end each shift with all of your workers heading home injury-free? Do you have tailgate safety meetings to review the hazards of every job? Is your safety program all it can be? Promoting safety pays dividends in a number of ways. It limits costly downtime due to injuries. It reassures your customers that you perform without mishaps. And it protects your most valuable assets your people. DIGGING MORE COAL? Coal launched in 2011 and it may return to update the adventures of the hardworking miners and the subcontractors who serve them. Lets hope more television series showing the resourcefulness and accomplishments of the gas, oil and mining industries are in the offing. GOMC

MBI Energy Services experiences full-throttle eet and driver growth to keep pace with demand from busy oil eld customers
California gold rush, with eager prospectors flocking to the state hoping to capitalize on the rich shale oil play and booming economy. MBI Energy Services had one key advantage over others arriving on the scene in recent years it was an established area business long before the oil boom hit.
MBI Energy Services (formerly Missouri Basin Well Service), based in Belfield, N.D., has had the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time. Quick to respond when the North Dakota oil and gas boom hit, the company with current revenue of $600 million annually is now growing at near-breakneck speed. Offering fluid management, wireline, workover and trucking services to oil and gas companies serving North Dakotas (continued)

An employee is shown heating water on an MBI hot oil truck to pressure test a Bakken formation well.
Williston Basin, the 33-year-old company owned by CEO Jim Arthaud and his brother, Jody has flourished in recent years, adding employees and trucks faster, at times, than they can source them. The growth of the oil and gas industry and the companies that support them in the region is almost incomprehensible. In the last five years weve grown our company five times over, says Jim Arthaud. We went from 200 employees to 1,100 employees, and we went from 100 trucks to 500, with another 500 subcontracted. In the next five years we plan on doubling that again.
service AreA: Bakken (north dakota), niobrara and powder river (wyoming), eagle Ford (Texas), and marcellus (pennsylvania) weBsiTe: www.mbienergyservices.com
Arthaud said the company hired 400 drivers in 2011 and expects to hire another 400 this year. The states relatively low population is a hindrance to reaching those goals, he says. The No. 1 challenge is its very rural, says Arthaud. Everyone who wants a job has a job. Williston has grown 15 percent in the past decade yet
In the last five years weve grown our company five times over. We went from 200 employees to 1,100 employees, and we went from 100 trucks to 500, with another 500 subcontracted. In the next five years we plan on doubling that again.
Jim Arthaud
And with about 200 drilling rigs running in the region now, and another 200 to 300 expected to be added in the next five years, MBI Energy Services continues to ramp up and innovate to meet the growing needs of its customers. But with the velocity of growth, there are bound to be bumps in the road. PEOPLE PROBLEM Growing pains on a giant scale can be significant, but the company has been quick to figure out new ways to help meet oil and gas companies pressing demands. Among its many challenges, hiring qualified workers is the companys biggest struggle. Consider that North Dakota has the lowest unemployment in the United States just over 3 percent and you can see just how the Bakken and Three Forks oil booms have contributed to a labor deficit that affects nearly every industry and every profession. And so Arthauds top priority became finding people to fill driver positions.

still has fewer than 15,000 residents. So the company breaks out of its geographic chokehold by bringing labor in. Were creative, Arthaud explains. We go to job fairs, and we have an employee from every state in the United States working for us, including Hawaii. The labor challenge keeps the human resources staff busy. Its a two-prong problem, Arthaud says. You have to find the people and then with the population growth you have to provide housing. We have probably 400 people in company housing. Its very costly and a very hard task to do. Living quarters are dormitory-style housing for multiple workers and is a necessity attributable to the housing shortage created by the oil boom. MBI provides housing free to employees for the first 90 days, and then begins charging rent, which often convinces workers to seek permanent residence. To ease the culture and climate shock for those who are hired and move to North Dakota, many of the companys recruitment efforts are focused in other (continued)

Midwestern states, such as Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Idaho, Montana and Colorado. RETEnTIOn TEnSIOn Finding employees is one thing, but once they join the company ranks, MBI wants to keep them on board for the long haul. For one, its expensive to hire and train employees. Arthaud says as much as $20,000 can be invested in a driver before they even hit a route on their own. This includes two weeks in training and another 30 days spent riding along with another driver. Its tough, Arthaud says of his drivers jobs. Youre leaving family behind, you get homesick, so you try to transition people to permanent housing. Some drivers are tapped to receive more training to become hazmat-certified crude oil haulers, a designation with more stringent regulatory requirements. This certification involves an FBI background check and safety training.
ABOVE: MBI vehicles are on location at a drill rig site. RIGHT: These MBI 400 barrel upright tanks, shown on a drilling rig, hold diesel, water and invert. MBI provides rental and delivery services to its customers throughout North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota.
We like to say that with these unconventional plays, the geological question is taken out of it. Regulatory changes and price can affect it, but you know the wells are going to get drilled its not if, its when. You can go out and know for the next 20 years how many wells are going to be drilled.
Jim Arthaud And with annual turnover tracking in the 43 percent range, the company has every incentive to keep people or see dollars walk out the door. Even so, Arthaud says 43 percent isnt so bad for the industry. We looked at some studies where turnover was 100 percent. Having the right carrots in place can help to keep employees happy. We have the best benefits package you can have, says Arthaud, citing health, dental and vision insurance. And, the wage isnt too shabby either. A good hardworking truck driver can make in excess of $100,000 a year. And once you
get them to North Dakota, its a great place to live. Good educational systems, low crime and governmental budget surpluses round out the reasons why Arthaud says North Dakota is a desirable place to live, work and raise a family. Most people who move for these trucking jobs were unemployed in their own states. With its 1,100-person strong payroll MBI has become the largest private employer in western North Dakota. SAnd MAn So why the lightning-fast growth associated with these drilling operations? One reason is advances made in fracking technology. The freshwater, wastewater transport and disposal and sand needed to support these efforts have driven much of the demand for MBIs services. To that end, the company is hauling, on average, 100,000 barrels of fresh and frac water daily. Once its extracted you put it into disposal wells, Arthaud says. There are commercial disposal sites, but we have our own 30 of them. Its a service you have to provide to have a full package for your customers. (continued)

When working with these companies, says Arthaud: You have to have a very robust safety program, and you have to be very serious about it. Just about 10 percent of our workforce is safety personnel. Arthaud himself is heavily tied to operations and is deeply committed to safety; he keeps his phone on 24 hours a day and gets reports every 12 hours on any issues that might arise with equipment or people. Its safety all the time. If theres an incident, I know it. You have to live and breathe this if you want to do it you have to be available. We have safety meetings for everyone once a month and tailgate meetings every day before drivers go out, he adds. In addition to U.S. Department of Transportation and Occupational Health and Safety Administration training, oil companies send people in to train their way on their policies and practices. All of the companies are on the same page, but there are some specific things with each company, says Arthaud. Drivers arent allowed on companies sites until theyve received their training. Two weeks of classroom training and 30 days with a designated trainer see pass rates around 90 percent. A worker hooks a load hose to deliver diesel in Ross, N.D. MBI offers both proppant and diesel services in North Dakota and Wyoming.
The companys current service area sprawls across western North Dakota, eastern Montana and northwestern South Dakota. MBI has satellite operations in Ross, Watford City, Williston, Dickinson, Lignite, Westhope and Minot, N.D. The company now runs 100 sand transport tractors and trailers specifically for sand hauling. For the transport of liquids, the companys fleet includes 400 trucks and trailers. They are a mix of Freightliner, Kenworth and Peterbilt models. About a quarter are certified and used for the transport of petroleum crude oil. Trailers are from Heil Trailer International, Polar Tank Trailer LLC and Dragon Products, among others. The company also has 15 wireline units and 15 workover rigs. MBI assembles its own trucks with some assistance from several third-party vendors. About half our equipment is just a fifth-wheel tractor hooked up to a trailer with either a blower or a pump attached to the truck. Another 40 percent is what we call double-bottom trucks. These would be long-frame tractors that a body tank is mounted on and these require some work from us, the vendor or some third party, Arthaud explains. Procuring the right equipment can be problematic, too. Turnaround times are long. In the current business climate it can be six months before we get this type of equipment out and working. Yet, these hurdles come with the territory given the demand and thinly stretched resources. In 2012, North Dakota is slated to surpass California and Alaska to become the No. 2 oil producer in the United States, beat out only by Texas, and contractors will be required to keep up alongside the oil companies.

ood business leaders often say theyve learned more from their failures than successes. These leaders have the confidence to know they cant be right all the time and that mistakes come with the territory. For example, they might fail to communicate effectively or delegate properly. Perhaps they need to improve at seeking accountability or developing in the workforce. But whats the biggest failure of all, one that causes harm to the performance of a company? Its hanging onto the wrong person, in the wrong job, for too long. Ironically, a manager or small-business owner is last to understand the impact of
Nobody likes to be wrong. So when a manager hires someone who is a bad fit for a position, letting that person go becomes a public admission that he or she made a mistake. Unfortunately, the fear of admitting mistakes often stalls or prevents the termination process altogether. Perhaps the manager keeps hoping that this person will get better, but since hope is not a strategy for success, theres likely never any improvement. The situation festers, and everyone suffers. Another reason managers often dont do anything about ousting the poor performer is they dont have a backup plan. They believe that any living, breathing body is better than
no one at all. They accept mediocrity rather than take a risk that would enable them to create the opportunity to improve their situation. The solution would be to recruit proactively, always looking for someone who could be a better team player. Dealing with the poor performer also comes with the perception that it always results in conflict. Most people dont like conflict, so they avoid situations that might lead to it. But implementing a good performance management system eliminates the potential for conflict by creating an objective process for communicating with employees about their strengths and shortcomings. Many managers dont have a good performance management system in place, so if they have to deal with the poor performer, conflict results.

Thickeners, separators, dewatering and ltration units remove unwanted sand and liquids from sludge, protecting pumps and reducing transportation costs By Ed Wodalski
Drum thickeners, dewatering units, dewatering pumps and filter presses can lower disposal costs by removing liquids from sludge and slurry, while sand separators can protect valuable pumps from harmful abrasion. Here are a few products to consider when seeking a solution to your dewatering and separation needs:
1. alFa laVal
The ALDRUM G3 drum thickener from Alfa Laval can reduce sludge volume by up to 90 percent. The mechanical thickener conveys polyelectrolyte treated sludge (flocculated sludge) through a slowly rotating drum filter. Sludge remains in the drum as water passes through the filter cloth. Optimal thickening is obtained by varying the feed rate, polymer type and dosage, drum speed and spraying interval. Water consumption is reduced by intermittent cleaning of the drum using potable water, final effluent or treated filtrate. Features include self-cleaning, enclosed design for an odorless work environment and choice of control panels and auxiliary equipment to meet specific needs. 866/253-2528; www.alfalaval.us/wastewater.
3. baKerCorP
The portable, 10K Specialty Media System filtration unit from BakerCorp features dual vessels that hold up to 10,000 pounds of media per vessel. Features include integrated lead-lag pipe rack with backwash and safety work platform mounted on a compact skid. Designed to achieve higher flow rates while providing a cost-effective, labor-saving alternative to traditional liquid filtration systems, the unit requires no permits or specialized transportation. Safety features include permanent catwalks, guardrails and ladders. Applications include environmental remediation, construction, petrochemical, refinery and emergency response. 800/225-3712; www.bakercorp.com.

Polymer gel injection technology is evolving to increase oil recovery while blocking excessive water production in wells with dwindling performance
By Peter Kenter
The injecTion of polymer gels inTo underperforming oil
wells continues to pay dividends when all of the signs point to positive results. While theres no such thing as a sure thing, randy prater, owner of polymer services, llc of plainville, Kan., says meeting pre-selection criteria for a potential well remediation project is the best indication a well will respond to a chosen polymer technology. prater has been in the oil field service industry since 1977, developing extensive knowledge of oil well cementing and stimulation for energy services companies. he has designed and operated polymer treatment systems since 1989 and launched his own company in 1993. which would indicate the well has significant moveable oil in place, which can be mobilized by selectively blocking the waters path to the wellbore with a polymer block. prater says the price of oil then determines the expected payout time for the workover. higher prices result in a quicker payout. The company uses the petroBase software program to track the long-term economic benefit from polymer treatment. he says most polymer gel treatments pay out in a matter of months, and continue paying benefits for years.
Think of this as the wooden ties in railroad tracks, with each track being a polymer molecule and the wooden ties being the crosslinker, then twisting like a DNA molecule. This is what gives the polymer its gel strength.

polymer treatment is all about selectively blocking water encroachment into the well, says prater. if youre pumping 99 percent saltwater Behind the truck cab is the engineers cabin, where all of the treatment data is displayed on monitors in real time. oil-producing horizon often cones up through this network rapidly, allowing the water to overrun or bypass the oil to the wellbore. in contrast, an artificially induced fracture usually is designed to extend from the wellbore on a narrow horizontal plane, and is designed to stay within the oil-saturated section of the reservoir rock. The well should also be relatively high on structure. subsurface geological features sometimes mimic surface features such as hills and valleys, especially in certain limestone and dolomite formations, so tremendous differences in subsurface elevations can occur in a relatively small area.

significant amount of original oil in place. This technology has evolved to the routine point, with thousands of wells treated with very successful outcomes, says prater. many small to medium independent oil companies are actively searching for plugged out leases in order to revive the wells and produce new oil economically using polymer gel treatment as a key tool. Well candidates should exhibit a high producing fluid level that cant be pumped off even at high total fluid rates, a high water-to-oil ratio, and an indication of good remaining oil column or mobile oil saturation, prater explains. A well with oil buildup behind the tubing that can be flushed out by circulating the well is an excellent candidate. other information required for candidate wells includes current production data, completion data (open hole or perforated), logs and core analysis if available, water analysis (produced water), and reservoir temperature. The geology and terrain are also important factors. The company has primarily worked on wells in Kansas and Wyoming. finding wells with similar characteristics in other parts of the country including oklahoma, illinois and West Texas increases the likelihood of successful remediation. GEoLoGY Is KEY ideal formation characteristics include a geological structure made of carbonates (dolomites and limestones) that offers a bottom water drive. successful treatments have also been achieved in certain types of sandstone reservoirs. The formation should present high permeability contrast between formation layers and should be naturally highly fractured. naturally fractured reservoirs usually contain large interconnected fracture networks extending in all directions, vertically as well as horizontally, says prater. This complex network usually acts as a superhighway for well fluids first oil, then water to the wellbore. Because water is naturally more mobile than oil, a strong water drive from below the

The gel generates strength through crosslinking. This is the process of binding two individual polymer molecules together with an ionic bridge to form a stable gel structure, says prater. Think of this as the wooden ties in railroad tracks, with each track being a polymer molecule and the wooden ties being the crosslinker, then twisting like a dnA molecule. This is what gives the polymer its gel strength. We use a variety of polymer blends, which are tailored for a specific type of rock or sandstone formation, expected bottom-hole temperature ranges, and reservoir permeability factors. sometimes we have to do quite a bit of lab work to find the optimum blend. Colorados Crossfire LLC finds electric-drive Caterpillar dozers make the grade for reducing expenses and boosting an eco-friendly reputation
By Ken Wysocky
s Ezra Lee considered adding a new bulldozer to the fleet of Caterpillar equipment owned by his company, Crossfire LLC, he wanted a machine that could deliver four key benefits: decreased fuel costs, ecofriendly operation, lower maintenance expenses, and a green marketing angle to attract and retain environmentally sensitive customers. That might sound like a tall order. But with the purchase of two electricpowered Caterpillar D7E bulldozers, the owner of the Ignacio, Colo.-based provider of oil and gas field support services can sum up the results of his search in two words: mission accomplished. After testing a prototype of the D7E during most of 2010, Lee was so pleased with the results that the company bought the model. Last February, the company bought another one. The price tag was about $600,000 each, which is more than the cost of a conventional bulldozer. But the benefits the machines bring to the table made it an easy decision, Lee says. With the fuel savings, the marketing advantages and the decreased maintenance costs, it was a no-brainer, he says. I expect fuel costs will continue to rise, which means that five years down the road we should see that premium price we paid carry through on resale, when compared to a conventional diesel dozer. The machines effectively pay for the premium.
LOWER FUEL CONSUMPTION Except for a Caterpillar C9.3 235 hp diesel engine that powers a threephase, 480-volt electric generator, everything on the D7E runs on AC electrical current. The generator powers everything from the air conditioning to the final drive motors on the tracks to the hydraulic pump that lifts and lowers the blade. That results in a substantial decrease in fuel use up to 25 percent, Lee notes. Compared to a conventional Caterpillar D7R diesel bulldozer, that saves us about $10 an hour per machine in gas, or $100 a day in a typical 10-hour workday, he explains. Thats a significant savings over the life of a dozer. In addition, the D7E cuts maintenance costs by about 75 percent by eliminating service intervals required by items such as a hydraulic transmission and other components. Instead of a hydraulic transmission, the dozer relies on

Im not sure how you quantify that value, but it helps us maintain and grow current relationships with integrated gas and oil clients because they want to do business with eco-conscious customers. Lee says hes so happy with the D7Es performance that Crossfire will never buy another conventional dozer. The dozers are key pieces to our companys strategy moving forward and provide significant cost savings to our overall business, Lee notes. In fact, I hope Caterpillar comes out with the same (electric) design for other sizes of dozers, track hoes and the like. GOMC

an infinitely variable-frequency drive; there are no gears to shift just a dial an operator turns to boost or reduce speed. Moreover, the dozers require no engine belts, engine-mounted compressors, alternators or clutches. Fewer parts further reduce the potential for costly repairs and maintenance. We went from five service intervals on the hydraulics of the machine down to one (for the engine), Lee says. So along with the fuel savings, were pushing $30,000 a year per dozer in savings that goes straight to our bottom line.
3DLevelscanner
With over 600 installation sites in North America, BinMasters 3DLevelScanner is proven to measure tanks containing challenging materials like silica (frac) sand and proppants with unsurpassed inventory accuracy and performance reliability. Using dustpenetrating, non-contact technology, it measures and maps uneven material surfaces and offers a 3D visualization of the contents.
Weve had major oil companies award us contracts just because we have the electric dozers. It allows them to tell the federal agencies they work with that they use contractors with electric technology. Im not sure how you quantify that value, but it helps us maintain and grow current relationships with integrated gas and oil clients.
Ezra Lee
Lee admits he was initially concerned whether an electric dozer would be powerful enough to perform as well as a diesel-powered unit. But the D7E gets better torque to the ground than a conventional hydraulic torque converter, he says. In terms of productivity, we rate the D7Es just under a D8-size dozer. The D7E is lighter, but has a lot of pushing capacity maybe just a 10 percent reduction compared to a D8, in terms of pushing dirt. ECO-FRIENDLY, TOO The D7E also provides environmental benefits. Its significantly quieter than a conventional dozer, which is important if Crossfire deals with U.S. Department of Wildlife noise-pollution standards when working on projects sited on federally owned land. It also enables the company to easily meet Tier IV federal emission standards without sacrificing power and performance, Lee says. Also, the electric dozers which Crossfire uses primarily for building access roads to well sites and site reclamation dont carry 95 gallons of hydraulic oil found in conventional dozers, which pose an environmental risk if a hose breaks. Theres no potential for cleanup costs, which is a strong selling point for our customers, Lee says. In addition, the electric dozers provide Crossfire with a green marketing angle that makes it more attractive to customers, both old and new. Weve had major oil companies award us contracts just because we have the electric dozers, Lee says. It allows them, in turn, to tell the federal agencies they work with that they use contractors with electric technology.

Camera system oers safety and productivity
By Ed Wodalski
The TRACK-VISION safety camera system from RMT Equipment Inc. delivers a 115-degree field of view in any direction, eliminating blind spots. The system has a 7-inch, high-resolution LCD color monitor for low light clarity, and enables the operator to view up to four cameras. People know lives can be saved if you have a backup camera, says Marc Lefebrve, president and co-founder of RMT. But we have found customers sometimes are more interested in the camera as a tool. It provides eyes to areas that you might not be able to see. On an excavator that eye might be to the right of the machine, eliminating the blind spot when the boom is about 45 degrees up. In addition, sometimes we install a third camera on the stock, which enables the operator to see over walls or into railroad cars. So again, its all about safety, Lefebrve says. Cameras typically provide 25 to 30 feet of vision, but can be mounted to provide up to 50 feet of vision on large mining trucks that take more time and distance to stop. The camera and monitor, which work off the equipments 12- to 24volt power source, are designed to meet the demands of heavy industrial use. Its not something you would put in your recreational vehicle or car, Lefebrve says. The waterproof, wide-screen monitor resists vibration, dust and grit, while the impact-resistant camera features a nitrogen gas-filled body and heated tempered-glass lens to resist scratches and prevent blinding from
humidity, fog or snow. The camera can be pressure washed and has an operating range of -40 degrees to 167 degrees F. The monitor can be used to display dot references as well as vertical and horizontal lines for safety and productivity. If you have a dump truck and you want to make sure it never goes farther than three or four feet from a concrete block when you unload, you can add a green line that tells the driver that when you reach that spot, stop here, Lefebrve says. The camera and monitor are available in a kit (bolts and brackets) and take about three hours to install. More than one monitor can be mounted in the cab, enabling operators of large vehicles to have a clear view of all corners. Options include a real-time recorder that captures up to 72 hours of data on a ash card and radar that provides a visual progression bar, indicating the distance equipment is from an object. Another option is a wireless camera enabling the driver to see the box being filled without leaving the cab. The camera can be placed on excavators or crushers to see the amount of material in the jaw, or on a wheel loader, enabling the operator to see material being dumped. 800/648-8132; www. track-vision.com.
