1 Denition
The Subscriber Barge-in (SBI) feature allows a GeoCENTREX subscriber to break into an ongoing call with another GeoCENTREX subscriber in the same GeoCENTREX group without interrupting the call. To do this, the GeoCENTREX subscriber dials an access code, followed by the internal directory number of the subscriber he wishes to contact. A break-in tone (two warning tones at 425 Hz) is applied to the subscriber he wishes to connect before the three-way call is set up. To prevent break-in (listening in) by other subscribers, the Subscriber Barge-in Rejection (SBIR) feature can be assigned to the GeoCENTREX subscriber.

2 Mode of operation
When the call processing system receives the SBI feature code from an access line with the Subscriber Barge-in (SBI) feature, it sends a ringback dial tone to the subscriber access line. If the line of dialed internal directory number is in conversation mode (twoway call), the call processing system establishes a three-way call. Before it establishes this three-way call, the system gives prior notification of break-in by a third subscriber in the form of two warning tones (tone - 1.3 seconds at 425 Hz (-13dB) / pause for 1.3 seconds). The break-in tone is only audible to the subscriber whose call the third subscriber wishes to break into. The other subscriber does not hear this tone. This means that, while the break-in tone is being transmitted, the speech channel of the active call is interrupted in the listen direction of the called subscriber. During the period in which the SBI call is indicated to the existing (original) call, the SBI call remains in the ringing phase. The three-way call is set up when the break-in tone ceases. The SBI call is rejected if the called GeoCENTREX subscriber has activated the SBIR feature. If this GeoCENTREX subscriber (with SBIR) is not busy with a call, the breakin attempt is not rejected but is handled like a normal call setup. If a GeoCENTREX subscriber attempts to break into a setup call connection, the breakin feature operates like a direct call pick up. The a called GeoCENTREX subscriber can be a calling or called subscriber of an already exisiting connection. Multiple break-ins are not possible. Terminating a call SBI call in the ringing state If the called (barged into) subscriber replaces the handset, only the active call is terminated. The monitored subscriber is called back. The monitoring time sensor for the warning tone is disabled while the active call is terminated. If the subscriber who initiated the break-in replaces the handset, the active call is not terminated. The indication tone is simply switched off. If the subscriber who is connected to the called (barged into) subscriber replaces the handset, only the active call is terminated. The SBI call is switched to speech status.

SBI call active (three-way call) If the called (barged into) subscriber replaces the handset, both calls are terminated. If the subscriber who initiated the break-in replaces the handset, the other call remains active. If the subscriber who is connected to the called (barged into) subscriber replaces the handset, the SBI call remains active.
Analog GeoCENTREX subscribers As an alternative to the SBIR feature, the Protection for data transmission against interference in the speech channel Voice/Data Protection, VDP feature can be activated for analog subscribers, in order to prevent a break-in. ISDN GeoCENTREX subscribers The called subscriber is informed via the display. Capacity The percentages indicate the number of authorized subscribers for the feature within the network node and their simultaneous application. Analog Authorization GeoCENTREX subscriber 100% --Use ISDN Authorization 100% --Use
However, three-way calls, whose availability is dependent on traffic conditions, are required for the SBI feature. 64 three-way calls can be processed for each LTG.
