Econosto Check Valves allow flow in one direction and automatically close when flow reverses. They work by using pressure and flow velocity to open and close a disc mechanism. Proper sizing is important for maximum service life, especially when used on water lines or near pumps. Check Valves come in various designs, materials, and options to suit different applications. The swing check valve with bronze seating is most common due to bronze's sealing ability and suitability for different temperatures and materials. Rubber faced discs also provide protection and noise reduction in some applications.

Check Valves
General Design & Application:
Econosto Check Valves allow flow in one direction only and close automatically when the flow reverses. These valves are entirely automatic in action. Check Valves depend upon the pressure and velocity of flow within the line to perform their functions of opening and closing. As mentioned above the Check Valves are used to prevent the reversal of flow in piping systems. The valve is kept open by line pressure while closure is automatically activated by the reversal of flow by the weight of the disc mechanism. The disc and any other associated moving parts are always in a state of movement if the velocity of flow and pressure is not sufficient to hold the disc in wide open and stable / fixed position. This may lead to a high frequency noise also in the pipeline. Premature wear and noisy operation or vibration can be avoided by selecting the size of the Check Valve on the basis of flow conditions. The correct sizing of Check Valve is very important, particularly when the service is on water lines and other non-compressible materials. Proper sizing of Check Valves is very important for a maximum service life and so also is locating it away from the pulsating pump. When used in proximity of a pump, we recommend that the Check Valve should be the same size as the discharge orifice on the pump. The reason being that the excessive turbulence through the Check Valve not only causes a clatter, but also results in rapid wear of the internal parts. Econosto Check Valves are available in various designs, materials and options. The Swing Check Valve with bronze seating is most commonly used. Due to its relative softness and ductility of the bronze seats it offers more positive sealing effect than would a harder material. Moreover the bronze seating is versatile in its suitability both as to temperature and various commonly handled materials. Wherever the service conditions permits we also recommend the use of check valves with rubber faced discs. The soft rubber offers substantial protection to the seat in cases where foreign materials are encountered in the line. The rubber faced disc also helps in services where due to the high head pressure, the flow is sharply reversed as it muffles the sound of the valve closing in addition to protecting the seat. Swing Check Valves with lever and weight can be used where there is a problem of pulsation in the lines and also for non-slam design. In this catalogue you will find mainly two types of Check Valves i.e. Swing Pattern and Wafer twin disc type.
