Principals Column
Wow! Where did the year go? It seems just a short time ago, I was welcoming our students back to school. Now it is time to celebrate their accomplishments. Too soon, we will say good-bye to our 5th graders as they graduate and move to middle school. Mark your calendars for 5th grade graduation, June 6th at 8:00 am. Before we say good-bye we have a busy schedule of activities. Please take time to read your newsletter and check our website. There are many upcoming events that you wont want to miss. Speaking of saying good-bye, we will be saying good-bye to Martie Talbert, 3rd grades teacher. Martie is retiring this spring and will be enjoying her time being a grandmother to her 2 grandsons. We wish Martie all the best. As a reminder, May 27, Memorial Day is a holiday and all school offices will be closed. However, we will have half days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with dismissal at 10:45 am each day June 4-6. Please let your childs teacher know of any dismissal transportation changes. In preparation for next year, remember that you can order your school supplies through our PTO. The flyers went home today. You may also choose to purchase these on your own. Have a wonderful weekend.

News from the Nurse

Medication Pick-up from the Health Room
Thank you for allowing me to help with meeting your child's health needs this year at school. The end of the year is almost here and we are making preparations for closing of the health room. If your child has medication here at school, a parent or guardian will need to pick up the medication before the end of the school year. For safety reasons, we do not send medication home with students and medications cannot be stored over the summer. Any medications remaining will have to be disposed of according to DHEC regulations. Please stop by the health room to pick up your child's medication before the last day of school. If you need to make special arrangements, please call Nurse Echerer, at 476-4609. Parents, if your student will need prescription medicine to be given at school or if they have a chronic medical condition , an Individual Health Plan and/or medication form for the 2013-2014 school year will be mailed home. These will be mailed to you at the beginning of summer so that you can have them reviewed and signed by your medical doctor prior to school starting in August. This is extremely important! It helps us start the year off being able to fully take care of your child's medical needs at school. This is also helpful to your doctor as they get an overload of medication permission forms and IHP approval forms to sign at the beginning of the school year! One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) is now required for all SEVENTH grade students. Tdap is routinely administered at 11-12 years of age; however, if Tdap is needed at an earlier age, a dose administered on or after the seventh birthday will meet this requirement.

Changesfor20132014SchoolYear
South Carolina state law requires that ALL medications have a Physicians consent (signature), in addition to your consent, before it can be given at school. TYLENOL, MOTRIN, COUGH DROPS, CALADRYL CREAM, EYE DROPS, ETC. will need a Physicians written consent before it can be given in the Health Room. It will be the parents responsibility to get the medication permission form signed by their childs doctor. The school nurse will not be able to fax permission forms to a childs doctor as in the past. We are letting you know now so that you can get the medication consent form(s) signed by your childs Physician before coming into the Health Room. If you need a consent form go to the districts website at: lexrich5.org and click on School Health Services to download a consent form. You may also pick one up at the Health Room.

Reminders From the Office

Proof of Residence: The District Office has determined that all students will now be required to provide 3 Proofs of Residence each year. You will need to provide the following: 1) Property tax bill/Lease/Real Estate Closing documents

2) 2 bills dated May 1, 2013 or later. These can be electric, water, sewer, cable, satellite, phone, cell phone, vehicle tax or voter registration card. When a student and his/her parent/legal guardian move in with a family in an existing home/apartment, the parent/legal guardian must provide proof of acceptable address. The homeowner must provide the 3 proofs of residence above and an affidavit must be completed and notarized. Please call 476-4600 if you have any questions. Bus Registration Forms: The bus registration forms (tan) have been sent home. If your child will be riding the bus next year, please complete this form and return it to your childs teacher. These forms only need to be returned if your child will ride the school bus to or from school.

Sing Along Time Change

Our May Sing Along will be held on May 22nd. Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades: 3rd, 4th & 5th grades: 8:00 am 9:00 am

Dear Parents, We have arrived at the point in the year when we begin to make plans for the upcoming academic year. We will soon begin the process of preparing class rosters for next year. Time and effort are invested so that classes meet the instructional needs of children. If you feel that your child has a special need or circumstance that you would like for us to consider, please put your request in writing and forward it to Wendy Stoudemire through delivery to the front office or through email to [email protected]. Please include PARENT REQUEST in the subject line of an email. Mrs. Stoudemire will send a reply email to your request indicating that it was received. Include in the letter the grade your child will be entering and the characteristics/needs that your child has that would require consideration. Please do not include a specific teachers name, areas of certification, physical characteristics, etc. Request for a specific teacher will not be considered. The purpose of our request for the letter is to share things that we need to consider about your child. All letters must be received by Friday, May 17, 2013. Please understand that letters from prior years are not considered. Letters must be submitted annually. Wendy Stoudemire Assistant Principal

Chorus, strings and tone chimes will perform at both concerts.

News from the Cafeteria

After May 11, 2013 no one will be allowed to charge a meal. This does not mean we will deny any student a lunch. Students will still be able to get a PB&J sandwich with a milk, if they do not have money in their accounts. Their accounts will still be charged for the sandwich & milk. Please make sure your childs meal account has money to cover meals through the end of the year. All cafeteria debt must be cleared by May 24th.

MENU CHANGE for May 20, 2013... "Field Day".

We will not be following the printed menu for this day. A choice of a Cheeseburger or PB&J bag lunch will be served on this day.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
As you know, Kindergarten registration is currently taking place. Many of our new families have picked up paperwork for registration, but have not yet returned it. If you have paperwork and have not turned it in, please do so as soon as possible. We are unable to enroll your child until we have the proper paperwork. If you have not yet registered your child please do so. It is important for us to know exactly how many students we will have so that we can have adequate staffing and materials. Please remember that you will need the following to register: Birth Certificate Current Immunization Parents Drivers License 3 Proofs of Residence: Property Tax Statement or Lease 2 utility bills associated with the property (power, water, sewer, cable tv, satellite, phone, etc.)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FEES

As your child continues from elementary school to middle school then to high school, all unpaid fees will accumulate and follow your student. This will mean that any past, previous or accumulated debt that is outstanding must be settled before their Official High School Diploma will be mailed at the conclusion of his/her high school career. These fees include lost or damaged textbooks, cafeteria fees, overdue book fees, and school fees. Please be sure that all fees are paid at the end of each school year to avoid a surprise upon graduation from high school.
