This is an old reliable. It has so much useful information on Bessarion, and -of course- the hand-picked successor to Mark of Ephesus...Gennadios Scholarios. Although this article has little to crush the Scholarius-haters out there (Don't tell me you can't hate what you don't even know about). Traditionally, Scholarios has been beaten up by everyone on the Orthodox side (save Zezes- who beats up on just about everyone else). On the Catholic side he has been absorbed into the Borg as some sort of justification for all sorts of things. In reality, Scholarios should really be recognized as the last stage of the gradual synthesis of Latin and Scholastic philosophy before the fall of the Polis. If the Scholarios haters actually started reading the scholarly literature on Palamism out there they would see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mark of Ephesus was no dumby. Scholarios was a worthy successor to his master.
