Guidelines for Internship


Internship is one of the on-the-job training methods before employment to acquire and impart practical skills and knowledge to the students. Student internships provide opportunities for students to gain experience in their field, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, create a network of contacts, or gain university credit. Some interns find permanent, paid employment with the companies in which they interned. Their value to the company may be increased by the fact that they need little to no training. Objectives of Internship Significant objectives of internship include: To provide an opportunity to the students to have practical exposure of corporate environment and systems To render hands-on-experience to students and impart practical aspects of various functional areas To prepare students to accept challenging responsibilities in the corporate world To recruit prospective interns, if their performance is satisfactory during the internship process The students are required to undergo an internship programme in Industrial Organizations after their I Year MBA for a period of 6 weeks. They have to comply with the following guidelines and familiarize themselves with the

following aspects.

General Guidelines 1. The duration of internship period is 6 weeks. 2. Only Industry based projects are allowed. A certificate from the organization is compulsory for the interns. 3. The student should collect internship order from the Institution and report to the concerned organization accordingly. 4. The student should refer to the website of the Organization where he/she intends to do his/her project work, prior to the reporting date. 5. The student is instructed to report to the concerned officer of the organization on the date advised and receive instructions from him/her. 6. During the internship the student shall be under the supervision of a manager/ supervisor in the organization who will act as his/her corporate guide and will provide guidance. 7. The student will be required to abide by the rules of the organization where he/she is undergoing internship. 8. The students shall follow the formal dress code of the

organization/Institution during internship. 9. The students should maintain decency and decorum while interacting with the people in the organization. 10. The organization will be taking a strong view of the punctuality

and behavior of the student during the internship and therefore the student will be required to maintain punctuality and be on their best behavior and inculcate the good norms of the organization.

regarding any information they come across in the organization in the course of their internship. 13. Faculty will make surprise calls and visits at respective places.

No student is allowed to change the organization assigned to him/her without prior written permission of the Program Coordinator from GIM, GITAM University. 14. The students should report to the respective project Copies of the same should be provided during faculty guides by email (CC to the Program Coordinator) on weekly basis. submission of report. 15. All students have to prepare and submit an Internship report

after the internship period is over. PROJECT GUIDELINES: 1. Select a topic in consultation with your faculty guide and concerned executive of the organization. 2. Collect the relevant data with the cooperation of the concerned department in the organisation. 3. The students should maintain a diary of their daily activities at work which should be signed by the concerned officer at the end of the day and the same should be submitted to the department. 4. A rough draft along with the supporting material/questionnaire should be submitted by the students within 7 days of completion of field work to their Guides.

5. If required by the concerned department of the organization, a draft report may be prepared and submitted to the organisation. 6. Final report to be prepared with the guidance of the concerned faculty member of the Institute. 7. The final report should be printed and submitted to the college with the signature of the respective Guides within one month after the completion of the project. Those who do not submit their reports within the above mentioned time frame will not be allowed for the project viva-voce. A project is a scientific and systematic study of real issue or a problem with the intention of resolving with application of management concepts and skills. The study can deal with a small or big issue in a division or an organization, the problem can be from any discipline of management. The essential requirement of a project is that it should entail scientific collection, analysis and interpretation of data to valid conclusions. Points to be considered for selection of projects: Defining the project will be easier if you use the following acid test. A project should ideally meat these criteria. Will the implementation of the project bring about an improvement in the present status of an activity and can this improvement be quantified Quantification may be in terms of money, or better utilization of time and manpower, better sales performance, higher production etc. Is the project idea applicable in other similar situations? In other words, development of the idea of thesis, proving or disproving of a hypothesis the methodology, the framework for analysis should be such that it can be applied to other problems of similar nature. While it

would have a distinctive of its own in its application to the specific situation the project would not be so exclusive that its principles have no other applications. Does it have an underlying management principle, framework or model based on which the data is collected, analyzed and argument developed? Does the project report take into account factual data which is relevant to the situation?
