Re: Clara Simpson

DOB: OS/2712000

To Whom It May Concern:

Clara Simpson is 9 years old and has been my patient since 06117/03. Clara was in my
office recently on 09119/08 complaining of stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation, and
heart burn. She had various tests done including an abdominal x-ray, and stools cultures
which all carne back negative with the exception of constipation/irritable bowel
syndrome. Clara was instructed to eat a high fiber diet and take colace stool softener.
She hasn't been seen here since that recommendation.

As the school coun lor I have n Bentley Simpson in my

office this year approximately 12 times.

Sometim it is a quick hello in the hall and how are things

and he would ply.

He is a very nice boy and a good student.

The first time I saw him was on 9/19 and he shared his con rns
with me.
nd
On October 2 he said that Mom is havi ups and downs and
being a bit m n. He said she is real moody.
th
In the hall on October 30 he said things a wo

I honestly can't remember if I made an SRS report around th

time frame or not. I would say there is a 70 % chance that I did.
I do n have record of it because we are not allowed to keep
those records in the building anymore. If I didn't do then I
feel pretty sure that Jennifer Keys did make one as we talked
on on the phone about the situation. I work at two diffe nt
schools and I am over 40 years old so my memory isn't
fabulou
November 7 Bentley says Mom yells about most stuff. Mom
says you can't see your Dad. She has been mad and me and
Elliott and gives more attention to Clara. She favors her.

November 14 Dad requested attendance records on both kids

at nton.

November 19 The school nurse said Mom called and id she

has lost her job.

December 4 Mom is up and down again and tired and cranky.

She layed down and watched TV and didn't fix dinner.

December 10 Bentley says Mom told she lost her job.

December 17 My Uncle died and we are going over Christmas

break to Ohio. Mom lling. Deca came out 3 tim and the
police out and we still can't see Dad. (I don't know if Bentley
meant Deca has been out 3 times in the past 4 years or what he
Ily m nt).

January 20 Mom depressed and igno us. Still n}t my

Dad. 1miss him.

bruary 5 We a moving to Ohio the end of Mayor

beginning of June.

February 20 Got a new bike.

March 4 Ho is for sale and sign in the yard. I hang out most
weekends with my friend Austin to get away from home.
Bentley said he has n his new house.

March We sold the house.

April 17 Bentley looked d yesterday. He said my Mom off

her medication and she is yelling a lot. She pushed Elliott a few
tim . I am Staying at my friends hou . I have not n Dad
in months.

April 30 Dad came to school to get a copy of their grade cards.

May 21 Bentley on a field trip all day so I didn't see him.

May 22 Talked to Bentley in the hall for 2 minutes and asked

him why today Clara was crying when I went into her class to
teach a lesson. He said Mom yelled at her last night for hitting
us boys because we took her cell phone away.

Note: I have n r talked to Elliott as he does not go to school

he at Benton. I have never talked to Clara beca she is
sensitive and aside from her issue of going to the nu twi a
week for "stomach problems" she seems fine. With a kid like
Clara it is usually better to let her be and p her mind
occupi on friends} learning and school that she doesn't
dwell on home problems. I did witness Clara crying on May 22
at 10 am when I went in to teach my lesson. I told her it will be
okay and ignored her and she only cried for 5 minutes.

The reason I have tried to keep up with Bentley is because he

ked to see me. I thought and hoped him having a friend to
talk to from time to time would allow him to express his
thoughts} lings and emotions and therefore his mind would
th
be clea r learning and enjoying 5 grade. So the only kid in
this family that I can speak for is Bentley. He really does love
and miss his Dad. I hope someday this conflict between
parents can be resolved. Bentley an awesome young man.

To Whom It May Concern:

th
I am writing this letter on behalf of Elliott Simpson, who was a student in my 5
grade class during the 2006-2007 school year. Mr. Barrett Simpson, Elliott's father,
informed me of the plan of Elliott's mother, Karen Simpson, to move Elliott and his
siblings out of state.

Twice during the time that I have known Elliott I have filed SRS reports against
Karen based on information that Elliott shared with me. Once, the year he was in my
class, I filed the report jointly with the counselor at our school. This past fall (2008) I
filed a report on my own after a phone conversation in which Elliott told me about
the treatment he was receiving at his mother's home. SRS did not substantiate either
report, but I believe, based on phone and electronic conversations with Elliott, that
he is the victim of, at the very least negligence.

Yesterday I had the following text message conversation with Elliott:

"This is Mrs. Keys. Who would you rather live with, your mom or dad?
Why?"

"Dad because my mom is mean she yells and screams calls me and my
brother and sister bad names and pushes me and slaps my sister. My dad
doesn't do that."

To verify that it was Elliott texting me, I asked him who the meanest child in his
th
5 grade class was. He responded appropriately.

At the beginning of my year with Elliott he did well academically, got along with
everyone, and was articulate and outgoing. During that year, and subsequently, I
have witnessed him become more and more withdrawn, heard that his grades have
th
suffered, and have noticed that he is not as well-spoken as.he was asa 5 grader.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at 316-461-1772 if you have any questions

about this information.

Sincerely,

JL,U+ )71 . k&p
