    Why learn Spanish?

    A WORLD LANGUAGE
    There are more than 300 million native speakers of Spanish throughout the world being the forth most spoken language and the second most important one in international communication Spanish is spoken in 23 countries Spanish is becoming an increasingly global language and by 2010, 420 million (7% of the world population) will be speaking Spanish which will make it the worlds largest first language after Mandarin Chinese. Knowledge of Spanish opens up a new and extraordinary promising dimension for those individuals, firms or enterprises who want to try new countries and ventures

    Spanish is spoken by over 9% of the US population especially in California, Florida, large areas of the Southwest and New York and other large cities.

    There are over 20,000 Spanish periodical publications, 927 dailies, 350 TV channels and 5,812 radio stations.

    A USEFUL LANGUAGE
    Each of the 23 Spanish speaking countries has valuable contributions to make in the fields of commerce, industry and culture. To ensure success in the Spanish speaking market firms will need to promote their products in Spanish.

    Spain plays a major role in the EC and is one of Britains most important trading partners.

    Spanish is one of the official languages of the European Community, the United Nations and international conferences.

    AN ATTRACTIVE LANGUAGE

    Spanish has features which make it easy to assimilate in the early stages: - It has very simple sound system with just five vowel sounds.

    There is a direct correspondence between spoken and written forms. The basic points of grammar are quite simple.

    Spanish is a language whose popularity is growing, which means, wherever you live, you are likely to be able to find a course to suit you.

    If, on the other hand, you prefer to study the language at first hand in Spain, the choice of courses is overwhelming.

    For self-study there is a large selection of books, tapes, and other materials.

    Spain is less than two hours flying time away, and with so many twinnings, links and exchange programmes being set up; it is easy to find a chance to practice your Spanish. Under the EC funded ERASMUS scheme, 10% of British students whatever their main subject can spend some time studying at another European university. For those wishing to study in Spain, knowledge of Spanish offers the key.

    There are more than 1,000 university departments in the USA with 500,000 students. Spanish is also offered in EC countries, especially France, Germany and Great Britain. In France there are over 10,000 teachers of Spanish and 1,500,000 students.

    Speaking Spanish offers the key to the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Spain and Latin America.

    The vitality of Spanish and Latin America culture is also evident in many other areas of life: music, fashion, sports

    Being able to speak Spanish opens up a whole new dimension of holiday opportunities. 6.5 million British people visit Spain every year. Spain is the most visited country on earth.
