Going into the Northern B Divisional Volleyball Tournament in Malta as the District 2Bs top seed, It was the District 1B that would dominate the action with Fairfield defeating Choteau 3-2 for the championship and Shelby would place third. The Scotties opened the tournament on Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Cut Bank but would then be beaten by the Eagles 3-0. On Friday the Scotties were victorious over Plentywood before losing to Shelby for 4th place. The State B Tournament gets underway in Bozeman this Thursday. First round pairings have Florence taking on Jefferson at 10:00, Huntley Project battling Choteau at noon, Fairfield and Red Lodge at 2:00 and Forsyth vs. Deer Lodge at 2:00. Huntley Project, a perfect 30-0 this season, are gunning for a fifth straight state title. The Red Devils have won eight of the last 10 Class B championships.

OBITUARY

Jim Olk
James Murray Olk, age 74, of Glasgow, MT passed away November 8th, 2013 at his home of a pulmonary embolism. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow. Jim was born September 16, 1939 in Detroit Michigan, the only child of Joseph and Clara Olk where he graduated from Cooley High School in June 1958. He attended Highland Park Junior College in Detroit, MI. In January 1959, he went to Basic Air Police School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was then stationed in the Azores (Portugal), and was transferred to the Glasgow Air Force Base for three years. In 1962, he married Ailene Dokken in Glasgow, MT and they moved back to Detroit, MI where he joined the Detroit Police Department from 1962 until his resignation in 1967 due to an injury in the race riots. He then went to work for the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company as a budget analysis from 1969 until

1974, and graduated from electronic computer programing while attending night classes. Jim and Ailene had two daughters, Lisa and Lori. In 1974, Jim and Ailene moved the family back to Montana to farm with his father-in-law, Otto Dokken, which he continued to do until his death. Jim served on the Glasgow Police Commission and was also a jailer. He served on the Glasgow Schools Board of Trustees from 1985 1991 and received the Marvin Heintz Award for outstanding services to education from the Montana School Board Association, during his term. Jim then went to work for the Glasgow Public Schools as a custodian until his retirement. Jim thoroughly enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his grandson, Connor, on the farm. He also enjoyed playing cards (bridge and whist), bowling, traveling, fishing, and was an avid reader of Stephen King books. Jim was always looking forward to avoiding the long Montana winters and heading annually to Las Vegas where he and Ailene would stay

Whoa! That was close!

When the going gets tough, the Scotties went to their go-to guy. Down 14-13, facing third and goal from the three yard line, 34.1 ticks left on the clock in the fourth quarter and no time outs remaining, Jonny Koessl took the hand-off from quarterback Jason Thibault, cut to his left and found himself plunging into the end zone: Scotties 19, Fairfield 14! It was an ugly win, admitted Scotty Head Coach Greg Liebelt, but it was a win. The Scotties jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on Koessls first score of the day, also from three yards out with Valentin Robert kicking the PAT. But the Eagles would rebound later in the period when their quarterback Tanner Meyer would run one in from seven yards and Morgan Schenk was successful on the point after. Just when it was appearing the score may be deadlocked going into halftime, Meyer hit Auston Batson for a 47-yard touchdown toss with Schenk kicking the extra point for a 14-7 Eagles lead going into the lockerroom. The Scotties would answer back midway through the third period when Thibault hit Keil Krumweide with a nine-yard scoring strike but the kick failed. Although the Scotties gave up a total of 314 yards in the ball game, they never allowed the Eagles into the end zone in that second half and would rally to win it in the

closing seconds. Now its on to Baker for semifinal action this Saturday. The Spartans also ground out a tough victory, nipping Big Fork 34-28. Defending state champion Missoula Loyola squeezed it out over Red Lodge 3433 and will face Jefferson which was victorious over Choteau 27-12. Time for some more Scotty Pride A group of Scotty Boosters is organizing a tailgate party this Saturday in Baker. Hot pulled pork and ranch BBQ beans (utensils included) will be provided at no cost. Fans are asked to bring some chips, bars or cookies to share and everyone will have to supply their own beverages. A location for the tailgate party will be announced soon.
