Students of the (nder 5raduate Programs and Integrated .0+ Program are re)uired to underta#e eight 6ee# Summer Internship Program during summer semester at the end of 7ear I and 7ear II. 8he Summer Internship Program helps the students learn the application of the concepts learnt in the classroom and helps them e9pand their #no6ledge base. Students are e9pected to involve themselves totall! in the project assigned to them and ma#e the project 6or# a platform for meaningful learning. Students 6ill be guided b! $acult! 5uides in successful completion of the Summer Internship Program.

8he objectives of the Summer Internship Program are varied: a. It helps the student to get e9posure to corporate culture b. 8o provide an opportunit! to appl! the concepts learnt in the classroom and gain command over application of #no6ledge c. 8o improve interpersonal s#ills; professional eti)uette and professional s#ills d. 8o e)uip the students 6ith tas# orientation and e9pose them to organi<ation culture and team 6or# e. 8o ac)uire 8ime .anagement and Project .anagement s#ills f. 8o develop s#ills of report 6riting and effective presentation Summer Internship Program: 4ach student 6ould be assigned a Summer Internship Program 6hich is to be completed as per the schedule appended to these guidelines. 8he Project ma! be a= a stud! 6or# assigned b! a compan! in consultation 6ith the $acult! 5uides> b= on the job e9ecutive training in a compan! involving selling mar#eting various products c= research project based on the stud! conducted through primar! and secondar! research and d= a librar! lab project assigned b! the $acult! 5uide in consultation 6ith the Internship -oordinator. 8he Summer Internship Program helps the student learn to underta#e structured project assignments 6ithin specified timelines. + good Summer Internship Program underta#en 6ith all the seriousness provides an e9cellent learning opportunit! to the students.

Summer Internship Program can be broadl! be classified into three phases vi<. ?i= Preparation of a Project Proposal ?ii= Implementation of Project "or# and ?c= Submission of $inal Project %eport.

Project Proposal , S-nopsis


+ 6ell@conceived Project Proposal is essential for a good )ualit! project 6or#. -larit! in the project proposal 6ill lead to proper implementation and reaching the goals of project. 8herefore; the student should thin# through the Project Proposal in the initial da!s and set realistic and appropriate goals. 8he project title should be clear; concise and apt.

Implementation of Project Proposal re)uires planning; coordination and operational discipline. Students are advised to brea# the project into various components and assign timelines along 6ith the desired results. 8his 6ill enable the students to understand the progress made from time to time and ta#e corrective measures 6here time overruns are noticed. 8herefore; it is recommended that the students 6or# 6ith the $acult! 5uide to prepare a detailed schedule of various components of the project implementation and assign date for completion of each component. $urther; the students are also suggested to identif! critical components of project implementation and to focus on them.

Students are re)uired to submit the final project report as stipulated in the calendar. 8he report should be of appro9imatel! &0@'0 pages and presented 6ell. 8he guidelines for 6riting a project report are given in Annexure I. 86o copies of the report should be submitted to the $acult! 5uide for further processing.

!&GIS !A I"N
+ll the Students participating in Summer Internship Programs should register themselves at their campus as per the due dates specified in the calendar. 2ela!ed registrations are not permitted. 49ceptions; if an!; 6ill be subject to approval b! the Aead of the %egion; for 6hich a 6ritten re)uest should be sent through Internship -oordinator . Aead of the %egion shall accept such late registration onl! if it is genuine; and after informing the Aead@ +cademic "ing. Late registration is not a matter of right, and such a provision is made onl to ta!e care of e"ceptional and genuine cases. Students should fill the BStudent %egistration $orm cum code of conduct3 #Annexure-II); sign and submit it to the respective Internship -oordinator before the due date specified in the calendar.

Summer Internship Program is a uni)ue opportunit! to the Student to get e9posed to the corporate culture; professional e9perience and implementing the theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom in developing managerial and technical s#ills along 6ith other s#ills. 8he endeavor of the Student Intern during this period is to optimi<e his her learning through dedication; commitment and hard@6or#. 8his re)uires discipline; positive attitude; focused approach and in)uisitiveness to learn.

+bsolute attendance ?100C= is a s!mbol of dedication and commitment of a Student. (nless there is a dire need for leave; the Student should not be granted leave. 2edicated effort from the Student paves the 6a! for health! relationship 6ith the organi<ation and enhances the learning opportunit!. "ith a vie6 to encourage attendance and re6ard those 6ho are regular; 6e have introduced the follo6ing guidelines: +ttendance s!stem follo6ed in the compan! in 6hich Summer Internship Program is being pursued should be follo6ed b! the Student. Student is permitted to avail a ma9imum of four da!s leave during the period of Summer Internship Program 6ith prior approval from the -ompan! 5uide and $acult! 5uide. $ormat of +pplication for leave is given in Annexure- III. $or all the leaves availed be!ond the stipulated four da!s leaves; there 6ill be a penalt! in terms of mar#s. +bsence 6ithout prior approval 6ill be vie6ed seriousl! and ma! even lead to termination of Summer Internship Program. 8he statement of leaves availed b! students should be submitted to the Internship -oordinator b! the $acult! 5uide ever! .onda! in the format given in Annexure IIIA. +vailing of leave?s= b! a Student is subject to follo6ing condition?s=: a. b. c. d. +pplications for leave shall be made onl! in unavoidable circumstances and in the prescribed format Student is permitted to avail leave for a ma9imum of four da!s 6ithout an! penalt! 8here 6ill be a penalt! of $ mar!s per each da of leave from the aggregate Summer Internship Program mar#s be!ond four da!s Leave be!ond , da!s ?including leave 6ithout penalt! 6ith penalt!= during the entire period of Summer Internship Program is strictl! not allo6ed and 6ould lead to repeating the Summer Internship Program

49: Suppose a Student avails leave for 11 da!s during SIP. If the final mar#s of the Intern are ,& out of 100; then he she 6ould suffer a penalt! of 21 mar#s ?i.e. 3 mar#s D , da!s=. -onse)uentl! his her final mar#s 6ill be ,& E 21 F '3. 5rading for Summer Internship Program performance 6ill be based on '3 mar#s ?and not on ,& mar#s=.

7.0 PU!SUING SUMM&! IN &!NS)IP P!"G!AM A " )&! I$(AI Uni8ersit- $AMPUS
+ll Students are e9pected to pursue their Summer Internship Programs at their I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a -ampus. Gormall!; a student is not permitted to underta#e Summer Internship Program at other locations than their I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a -ampus. Ao6ever; in e9ceptional circumstances; a Student ma! be permitted to pursue Summer Internship Program at other locations. In such cases; the follo6ing conditions appl!: a. 8he Project shall be arranged b! the Student himself herself b. Such a student 6ill be penali<ed b! reduction of 30 mar#s i.e. 30 mar#s 6ill be deducted from his her aggregate mar#s 49: Suppose a Student from +gartala 6ants to do Summer Internship Program at Shimla. If this is approved b! the Aead of the %egion and the change is effected then; 30 mar#s 6ill be deducted from the Student3s aggregate mar#s i.e. if the student secures a total of */ out of 100; then he she 6ill be finall! be a6arded 3/ mar#s onl!. Aence the Summer Internship Program at a different location should be underta#en judiciousl! and onl! in unavoidable circumstances. %e)uest for change of -ampus shall be made b! the Student Intern in 6riting in a prescribed format given in Annexure-IV and for6arded to the Aead of the %egion through the Internship -oordinator. 8he application should give valid justification for pursuing Summer Internship Program at other location.

9.0 $"N#U$ AN# B&)A'I"!


8he Students should bear in mind that the! are the ambassadors of I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a and conduct themselves in a manner befitting the I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a standards. 8he I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a e9pects the Students to maintain high professional and social standards. I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a e9pects that the Student shall at all times during Summer Internship Program conform to the rules and regulations of his her place of 6or#. It is particularl! important to be regular; punctual; obedient; honest and sincere at 6or#. (nprofessional behavior; dishonest!; misconduct; indiscipline; irregularit! at 6or# and unsatisfactor! performance 6ill lead to cancellation of project of the student. -onse)uentl!; the Students 6ill not be permitted to register for the ne9t Semester resulting in the loss of at least one academic !ear besides an! other form of action that I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a might deem fit.

8he Summer Internship Program carries a 6eightage of ' credits and therefore evaluation of the Summer Internship Program is critical to Student Interns overall performance. 8he follo6ing components shall be considered 6hile evaluating the student interns: 4valuation schedule as prescribed in these guidelines shall be strictl! implemented. Go sta#eholder shall e9tend evaluation schedule. Gon@submission of an! reports or not attending the presentation should be treated as B+bsence3 for the evaluation component 6hich 6ill lead to BGot -leared3 grade. +n! report or presentation submitted b! a student is not evaluated b! the concerned evaluators it 6ill be treated as BIncomplete3. In such a case the evaluator must e9plain reason for not completing the evaluation component. BHero3 mar#s shall not be a6arded for non@submission of reports or for not ma#ing a presentation. BHero3 mar#s should be a6arded onl! if the reports submitted or presentations made are so poor and that the intern deserves B<ero3 mar#. 4valuation of a component shall not be done; unless evaluation of previous components is completed. "here the previous component of evaluation is mar#ed as BG-3; student shall be issued a letter to repeat IP; 6here as in case of BIncomplete3 evaluation; the facult! guide must complete evaluation.

Summer Internship Program evaluation is divided into three components vi<.; ?a= "ee#l! progress report; ?b= Project proposal and ?c= $inal report. 8hese components carr! 20; 30 and '0 mar#s each. 2escription of these components and parameters for evaluation are described belo6:

1. 8he format for "ee#l! Progress %eport is enclosed ? Annexure-V=. +fter entering the details re)uired; the student should meet and submit 6ee#l! report in the prescribed format to the $acult! 5uide ever! .onda! 6ithout fail. 8his should be done till the completion of the Project. 4ach 6ee#l! report carries 2.' mar#s. 8he $acult! 5uide shall a6ard mar#s for each 6ee# and prepare a summar! sheet for all the students being supervised b! him her in the pro@forma provided at Annexure-V A. 8he BStatement of .ar#s +6arded3 for "ee#l! Progress %eport shall be submitted b! the $acult! 5uide to the Internship -oordinator; 6ho in turn shall for6ard a consolidated statement of final mar#s to +cademic "ing; I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a ?AI= as per Annexure-V B. "hile a6arding the final mar#s the $acult! 5uide shall calculate the average mar#s a6arded for all the previous 6ee#s and consider them as the final mar#s. 49ceptions; if an!; in submission of statement of mar#s should be reported to Aead; +cademic "ing; I-$+I (niversit! .eghala!a ?AI=. 8he Internship -oordinator shall maintain a database of all consolidated mar#s list for the 6ee#l! reports.

Parameters .or &8aluation<


8he parameters on 6hich the Summer Internship Program evaluation 6ill be conducted are detailed belo6: a. Project 6or# shall be evaluated on specific parameters such as 6ell defined project goals and problem formulation in the Project Proposal; understanding the

comple9ities of the project; methodolog! proposed ?optional=; 6ell@planned schedule of activities; abilit! to overcome the constraints during the project 6or#. i. $or (ndergraduates in .anagement Programs and Integrated .0+ Programs specific parameters regarding application of managerial tools and techni)ues to project 6or#; thorough research for information; 6ell thought@out model for data collection and anal!sis; findings and conclusions of the 6or# done etc. are also included as part of the evaluation. $or (ndergraduates in Science Programs; the project 6or# 6ill be evaluated based on the understanding of the e9isting s!stem; suggested changes modifications identification of soft6are modules re)uired to be developed; 2ata flo6 anal!sis; etc. 8he information on t!pes of projects for -omputer Science that can be underta#en is provided as Annexure IX.

8he evaluation 6ill be carried out b! the $acult! 5uide along 6ith the Internship -oordinator. 8he $acult! 5uide should brief the students about these parameters and evaluation process 6ithin one 6ee# of commencement of the Summer Internship Program.

10.2.1 Project Proposal<


8he Project Proposal provides the basic idea of the project. 8he Project Proposal must; inter alia cover the follo6ing aspects: 1. 2. 3. &. Project Proposal should be prepared and submitted to the $acult! 5uide b! the due date specified in the -alendar. $acult! 5uide shall evaluate the Project Proposal separatel! as per the criteria provided at Annexure-VI. $acult! 5uide should submit the cumulative statement of mar#s a6arded for Project Proposal to the Internship -oordinator as per Annexure-VIA b! due date specified in the -alendar. 8he Internship -oordinator shall send a consolidated statement of mar#s to Aead E49ams and Aead; +cademic "ing. ?Proforma enclosed at Annexure-VIB= b! due date specified in the -alendar.

10.2.2 (inal &8aluation<


(eport' 8he $inal %eport covers the entire project and is the 6ritten component of evaluation. 8his report should be submitted 6ithout fail. 8he $inal %eport is to be prepared based on the guidelines given in AnnexureI. $acult! 5uides guiding students shall evaluate the Project %eport separatel! as per the criteria provided at Annexure-VIIA. Presentation' 8he $inal Presentation is an important component of the Summer Internship Program. 8he presentations should be completed. $inal Presentation should be planned for about 30 minutes. $acult! 5uide and Internship -oordinator shall evaluate the $inal Presentation separatel! as per the criteria provided in )nne"ure-VIIB. 8he services of a $acult! 5uide of the relevant function; if re)uired;

ma! be obtained to be part of the panel. 8he necessar! allocation 6ould be done b! the Internship -oordinator. Statement of mar#s a6arded for $inal 4valuation shall be submitted b! $acult! 5uide as per Annexure-VIIIA to the Internship -oordinator b! due date specified in the -alendar. -onsolidated statement of mar#s shall be sent b! Set up an efficient /ac!0office for smooth administration and information flo1.

8he %egional IP -oordinator shall E 0e responsible for registration of Students at the -ampus. +llocate $acult! 5uides to Internship -oordinators as per the stipulated norms. +llocate Interns to $acult! 5uides as per the stipulated norms. 4nsure availabilit! of re)uired infrastructure at the -ampus. -oordinate and communicate 6ith the -ampus Aeads. 4nable regional revie6 meetings. Implement Summer Internship Program guidelines effectivel!. -omplete various components of evaluation as per the calendar. 4nsure smooth and successful implementation of Summer Internship Program. 4nable timel! submission of reports and returns b! the Internship -oordinator;

8he -ampus Aead is normall! the Internship -oordinator. Ao6ever; 6here the $acult! 5uides are more than eight at an SIP campus; the -ampus Aead shall nominate one more Internship -oordinator and assign facult! guides in more or less e)ual proportion. Internship -oordinator has to lead; motivate and mentor the $acult! 5uides. Ae she has to give necessar! thrust and directions for the effective implementation of Summer Internship Program from the 6ord go. 8he Internship -oordinator shall E Provide the infrastructure re)uired for the $acult! 5uides and the Students.

4nsure availabilit! of ade)uate number of $acult! 5uides at the campus. Ena/le effective Summer Internship Program / donning the mantle of an organi2er, leader, evaluator, ena/ler, director, planner, developer and resource manager. %evie6 the progress and performance of Students and $acult! 5uides from time to time and give necessar! feedbac# to the authorities concerned. -ounsel Student Interns; $acult! 5uides on need basis. 4nsure compliance 6ith the guidelines b! submitting various reports; returns; evaluation components; etc. as per the calendar. %andoml! select Student Interns and revie6 their progress from time to time. %andoml! chec# various evaluation components and ensure their effective implementation. Interact 6ith the -ompan! 5uides on a need basis and develop the relationship 6ith the companies. 5ive challenging tas#s to $acult! 5uides and help them achieve the tas#s. 4nsure that $acult! 5uides give ade)uate attention to the bottom 1 3rd students. Inspire the $acult! 5uides on the ta#ea6a!s during Summer Internship Program and facilitate publication of articles research papers caselets case studies. 4ffort should be focused on generation of $+Is; framing cue cards; designing role pla!s s#its and other innovative methodologies 6hich can be used as classroom tools for effective teaching. Intervene in the implementation of Summer Internship Program 1herever necessar and provide solutions. Periodicall underta!e random evaluation of students and validate the evaluations made / the 3acult Guides. )ttention has to /e paid to the isolation of /ias4 unfairness in evaluation, if an .

Encourage 3acult Guides to come up 1ith innovative practices for improved effectiveness in Summer Internship Program. 4nsure that the $acult! 5uide ta#es prior approval of leave. 4sure that the 3acult Guide fills the 3acult declaration form after completing final evaluation and for1ard the original to the 5ead )cademic 6ing, IC3)I 7niversit 8eghala a #59: dul signed.

8he role of the $acult! 5uide is to facilitate the Student Intern to underta#e a meaningful project; provide necessar! operational and academic guidance and to facilitate evaluation; 6ith the help of the -ompan! 5uide 6hile the Summer Internship Program is in progress. 8he $acult! 5uide 6ould be involved at all stages of the Summer Internship Program. 8he $acult! 5uide shall E

Submit a "ee#l! %eport to the Internship -oordinator. 8a#e prior approval of leave; if re)uired; from the Internship -oordinator. $amiliari<e Student Interns 6ith the evaluation process; parameters and schedules. Jeep the Student Interns informed about their performance progress in the Summer Internship Program; their strengths and 6ea#nesses as observed through the various evaluation components and also suggest 6a!s for improvement. Plan for moc# presentations b! the Students in the final evaluation. 8his 6ould help overcome an! shortcomings observed in the Students; 6hen the presentation is made to the target audience. 0e a part of all formal evaluations of the Students 6rite and pu/lish articles4research papers4case studies4caselets /ased on the 1or! done / the Students guided / him4her. It is desira/le to pu/lish at least one article4research paper4 case stud 4caselet during the period of Summer Internship Program. P0L also provides opportunities for interdisciplinar! learning. Students appl! and integrate the content of different subject areas at authentic moments in the production process; rather than in isolation or in an artificial setting. "hen the objectives are met; the project is considered complete. The Summer Internship Program for Computer Science students mainly constitutes of Software Development.
