Ole pops the BIG one of the Guv Cup

Ole Komrosky, fishing with his

older brother Doug Komrosky in the
27th Annual Montana Governors
Cup Walleye Tournament, hooked
into this jumbo mamma walleye at
high noon on Saturday, right when
the wind was beginning to pick up.
She was skinny because of
spawning, but she had the length,
Ole said of the 33 incher, largest
walleye of the tournament.

She may have been lacking in

girth, but not in fight. At first both
Ole and Doug thought it was a
northern pike as Ole started to bring
it up in 20 feet of water and it started
smoking the drag. After a couple
of runs, though, it started coming
straight up from the bottom, giving
Ole that tell-tale, head-shaking
thump, thump, thump, and then it
made yet another run straight to the

bottom.
Another fight between fish and
angler ensued, and finally they had
the first glimpse of the fish through
the stained water. Doug still had
northern in his mind, but that
quickly changed when he finally saw
those huge marble eyes.
Doug told me, Dont lose that
(fish)!

Blue Rock a bottling finalist

One of Pepsi-Colas finest-performing bottlers anywhere
is a familiar presence throughout Eastern Montana and
Western North Dakota.
Blue Rock Products Company of Sidney has been
named among three finalists for the companys Donald M.
Kendall Bottler of the Year Award, the highest honor given to
independent Pepsi bottlers by PepsiCo Americas Beverages
(PAB). Led by President and CEO John L. Olson, Blue Rock
qualified for consideration after meeting or exceeding a
rigorous series of award criteria, clearly identifying the
local bottler among the best of the best in the PAB franchise
system.
Blue Rock, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in
2013, was chosen as a finalist based on a number of sales,
service and quality metrics, as well as performance advancing
PABs strategic imperatives and vitally local community
involvement and support.

Named for PepsiCos legendary former chairman and
CEO, the Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year Award was
established in 1994 to recognize the very best Pepsi-Cola
bottlers in the United States and Canada. Since 2010, when
PepsiCo reentered the North American bottling business,
the award has been dedicated solely to the companys
independent franchise bottling partners.

In addition to Blue Rock, two other finalists are being
considered for this years honor: Pepsi-Cola Bottling
Company of Luverne, Ala ., and LinPepCos Siouxland
franchise, which serves parts of Iowa and Nebraska. All three
will be celebrated and the ultimate award recipient will be
announced during PABs national bottler meeting, Sept. 8-11,
in New Orleans.

Ole pops the big one continued from front

He adeptly scooped it into the net and
the celebration began.

We were hooting and hollering and
high-fiving... it was a rush, Ole said.

But then it was a race to the weigh
boat as the big girl wanted to go belly
up in the livewell. In a wild ride as the
trough of the waves were growing, Ole
held her upside right, they found a patrol
boat, got it quickly measured followed by
an equally quick photo, and Ole released
her where she went merrily on her way
back to the depths of Fort Peck a
successful catch and release so she can
maybe spawn again next year. Good job
to Team Komrosky and all those other
anglers who are happy to put these big
ones back where they belong.
+
DAY 1
Friday saw 90 teams having five
walleyes (or more if they upgraded) on
their cards. Through the top 113 teams,
they were just 32 walleyes shy of the fivefish limit before it started dropping off.

For example, Team #74 Jeff Koski
and Scott Fossum measured five fish,
but were in 108th place with a weight
of 5.59 pounds, their largest being 1.32
pounds (15.75 inches). Thats the way
it went for numerous teams on Friday
and both days, actually. Everyone was
catching fish, scores of little ones that
didnt hit that 14 1/4 mark and lots of
Eyes that didnt make two pounds. In
fact, only nine teams carded five fish that
were at least two pounds and up!
There were just six walleyes that
went over 10 pounds including that 32
1/2-inch, 14.03-pound hawg reeled in
by eventual champions Jesse and Monica
Reuter out of Sidney, who not only took
home well over $10,000, but bragging

rights for the largest single-day weight

of the tournament at 30.55 pounds.
Next biggest walleye of the day was a
12.06 pounder (31 inches) hauled in
by Sidneys Dayton and Douglas Wick.
Only problem is, the only other fish on
their card for the day was an 18 incher
(1.94 lbs.) and a first-day total of an even
14 pounds. They found their kicker, but
were still only in 24th place.
Eight teams were unable to find a
measurable fish.
A total of 595 walleyes counted
towards the Day 1 results with a weight
of 1,284.5 pounds for an average of 2.16
pounds per fish.

DAY 2
Saturdays fishing results had 10
walleyes over 10 pounds and just 60
teams being able to card five fish, all
the way down to 90th place for the day,
Dave Riggin and Dave Wallem with 6.12
pounds on five.
Largest walleye of the day was
a 14.72-pound monster (33 inches)
hauled in by brothers Doug and Ole
Komrosky, which would ultimately
earn them the Cool Under Pressure
award. Second largest walleye of the
day was a 14.03-pounder caught by
brothers Marvin and Donald Johnson,
propelling them from 45th place on Day
1 (11.06 pounds) to a third-place overall
finish. Their second-day weight of 26.11
pounds was third-best weight of the
tourney.

11 teams were unable to measure a
fish on Saturday.

Although more hawgs were caught
on Day 2, the 517 fish on Saturdays fivefish score cards were down from the 595
on Friday. The total weight of 1,133.32
