To Kick-off our Fall, Tim and Marie Huffman are allowing us to come to their home for a night around a bonfire. All the fun begins at 5 pm on Sunday night, Sept. 14th. This is in lieu of our Sunday evening service. You are being asked to bring a snack and drink for everyone to share. We will supply hot dogs and buns. In addition, you will need to bring a lawn chair. If you have a corn hole set, please bring it.
THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
The title of this study has caused some to wonder what will be addressed. Here is a sampling of the topics: The disappearance of sin, the malignancy of sin, ungodliness, anxiety and frustration, discontentment, unthankfulness, pride, selfishness, lack of self-control, impatience and irritability, anger, judgmentalism, just to name a few. Did you find your sin on the list yet? Dont worry, well help you discover it and encourage you to deal with it. It is really easy for us as Christians, to focus all of our time on the more open sins of our society and point a finger. In this class, you will discover it is time to deal with your own sins, as subtle as they may be in your life. Let us not tolerate our sins anymore. Lets allow Gods Spirit to prompt us daily to become Holy, as God is holy. Please pick up your copy of Respectable Sins from Brad today and plan to join us beginning September 10 th at 6:15 p.m. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Dont forget the church hot dog roast and bonfire on September 14 th. More details on the front page. I just want to remind all of our church to continue to pray for the unchurched people groups or tribes around the world. For those who committed to the Wall Project and submitted an e-mail address that weekend, you should be receiving periodic updates from Team Expansion concerning your tribe. Remember to pray daily for your tribe. Allow me to leave you with this thought: Some folks are wise and some are otherwise.
In His Service,
Brad
BITS FROM BRO. DAVE
PERSONAL NOTE: Sue and I, belatedly, want to thank each of you who remembered our birthdays and anniversary (57 years). Your cards and good wishes are much appreciated. As has been our custom, we got out of town for a few days (visiting the upper reaches of that state to the North of us.) Thanks, again, for your thoughtfulness.
TRI P CANCELLED: It became necessary to cancel our scheduled trip to Amish Country on August 27. We only had 8 people signed up and that was insufficient to pay for travel. Additionally, because our number fell below 20, we lost our group discount at the museum. It is possible that we may try again in October or November.
NEW HORI ZONS RETREAT: There is still time to register for this annual event which is held at the North Terrace Church of Christ, in Zanesville. This is a single day event which is planned just for seniors. Our hosts provide a continental breakfast, lunch and an excellent program. The registration fee is $25. A sign-up sheet and registration forms may be found on our main bulletin board. Complete a form and pass it, along with your fee, to me, for mailing. We have a number of people planning to attend.
MI DWEEK BI BLE STUDI ES: Our two study groups (10am & 6:30pm) will resume on September 10. As you will recall, our fall study, last year, was disrupted by a family emergency. Therefore, I am returning to that study this year. We will start from the beginning of A Brief Survey Of Old Testament History. If you have lost your copy of the study outline, we will have new ones available. Why not join us?
FI NAL THOUGHT: When you think about it, isnt it amazing that God has entrusted the proclamation of His salvation in the hands of we frail and unworthy humans!
On September 10 th , a new Life Group will begin entitled: Respectable Sins. This study will force us to question why it is we are comfortable with our own sins but not the sins of everyone else. Dont let the topic keep you away. As a disciple of Christ, we need to listen to His Spirit as he challenges us to grow up in our faith.

Therefore, over the coming weeks, we will be seeking to upgrade our security. This will involve asking those who attend Sunday School to use only the Fifth Avenue street level entrance and the handicap ramp. These doors will be locked at about 10:15am (after worship has begun) and all traffic will then be directed through our front Fifth Avenue entrance. This will make the task of our security people much easier and more efficient.
Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace- based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Church Health and Biblical Balance Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)
Global Evangelism We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon- Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Fellowship and Ministry After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.
Discipleship We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR PURPOSE
WE EXIST TO
Exalt Gods Greatness; Evangelize Gods Work Equip Gods People Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ
OUR MISSION To Love God and Love People! How Can I Respond Today? At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card. You meet skeptics every day. They ask questions like: Are your science teachers wrong? Is the Big Bang theory true? Or did God create the universe? Heres a book written in kid-friendly language to give you the answers. Women of the Old Testament and Women of the New Testament by Abraham Kuyper each contain 50 devotional messages for women. These classic devotional books give us 50 graphic character sketches that radiate scriptural insight. Each character study is based on a specific passage of Scripture.
