The VS is designed specifically for cleaning slag from furnace
walls. It does this by directing a high pressure cleaning medium
(steam or air) through one opposing nozzle onto the furnace wall. The screw tube delivers the nozzle into the furnace and then rotates the nozzles. This provides two cleaning sweeps affectivity covering 100% of the target area. As with the RW series wall deslaggers, the VS is fully retracted from the furnace when not in use to protect the nozzle and screw tube from the high heat conditions found in the furnace. These sootblower types are sometimes call short retracts.
The VS can be used in negative pressure, positive pressure or balanced draft furnace conditions. This is accomplished through the use of different style wallboxes with seal air and air capabilities. The wallbox is welded to a wall sleeve, which mounts on the furnace wall and provides the penetration point. The standard VS is complete with wiring from limit switches and motor terminating in the electrical enclosure. This electrical enclosure is also where the reversing motor starters would be installed for units with integral motor starters. Insertion and extraction push buttons are mounted in this enclosure for local operation. Electrical options would include power and control voltage disconnect and explosion proof enclosures.
The required frequency of operation of the sootblowers will depend on many factors, such as the nature of the contamination, gas temperature, fuel, design parameters, etc. It is required to establish a cleaning cycle practice by checking the fouling of the heating surfaces visually, and monitoring gas temperatures and pressure changes. If the cleaning effect is not sufficient, the blowing frequency, and/or the blowing pressure, can be adjusted. In the event that certain areas are not sufficiently cleaned, those responsible sootblowers may be addressed individually. Since the sootblowers blowing jets often have an are erosive effect if dust or ash is present, it is recommended that these surfaces be checked regularly for erosion. Blowing pressure should be reduced if damage is found.

Rotary Sootblowers
The Clyde Bergemann Model D5E (Electric) and D5M (Manual) Rotary Sootblowers offer dependability in boiler cleaning and ease in operation. The D5 Rotary has been part of the Copes Vulcan (Sootblower Division purchased By Clyde Bergemann in 1997) product line for many years with thousands of units providing excellent service worldwide. The D5 Rotary features a simple design concept, which equates to minimal maintenance cost and trouble free operation. The Clyde Bergemann Model D5 rotary sootblower is designed to clean convection surfaces of packaged or field erected industrial boilers. The blowing element of this type sootblower remains in the boiler at all times, supported by element bearings usually attached to the boiler tubes. Specially designed nozzles are located on the element (as required) for each specific installation. Saturated or superheated steam, as well as compressed air, may be used as the blowing medium. The D5 can operate in temperatures up to 1800 F with the proper choice of element material. To prevent infiltration of corrosive furnace gases through the element to the valve assembly, a scavenging air check valve is furnished as standard equipment on the D5 rotary sootblower. For pressurized furnaces a purging airline from a source of higher pressure than the furnace is connected to the scavenging air valve. We have a wide range of materials available to meet the requirement for any application, from plain carbon steel, to high temperature alloys such as HR-160. Element sizes are 1 and 2 pipe. Element support bearings in matching materials will be supplied. The sootblower can be configured for full or partial blowing rotation in either a clockwise or counter clockwise direction
Multimedia Sootblowers
Model RKTT
The RKTT dual medium cleaner is a specifically designed multi- function rake blower for Air Preheater duty. A multi purpose nozzle design allows for three modes of operation namely (1) Steam/Air (2) Low-Pressure Water (3) High Pressure Water. The normal mode of operation is using High Pressure Steam. Low and High Pressure Waters are used when operationally required.Steam or air is used for this on line cleaning. Low pressure water could also be delivered through the element nozzles for basket washing. The RKTT is different to the RKT in that it has the ability to supply a third cleaning medium, high pressure water. The RKTT is used in more sever cleaning applications such as those found following and SCR or SNCR installation where this high pressure water is required to remove sticky deposits. In addition to removing these sticky deposits the RKTT cleaner can be used to eliminate or minimize the need for off line water washing.
Jet Blowers
The Clyde Bergemann Jet Blower is a unit designed specifically for multi medium cleaning, utilizing a different style lance than the RKTT described above. The jet blower utilizes a straight line (non rotating) lance with a cluster of six nozzles. The basic principle is the same, clean with steam or air while the boiler is online and then switch to pressure water online when normal cleaning is not enough and low pressure water wash offline during a shutdown. A gauge panel is included on the unit for local reading of the cleaning media as well as pressure switches for local indications that can be transmitted to the controlling PLC. All other great features of the Clyde Bergemann retractable sootblower line are shared here as well
SmartLance Cleans with Steam or Water:
Many boiler operators firing heavy fouling fuels have trouble keeping super heater surfaces from forming sintered deposits. These often cannot be removed with regular retracts using steam or air as cleaning medium. On the other hand the regular use of water lances is prohibitive because they too often cause unacceptable levels of tube damage. Clyde Bergemanns Multi Media SmartLance now offers a new solution: It is a retractable sootblower that normally cleans with steam, however, if and when necessary allows the operator to perform a special cleaning cycle during which water is blended into the cleaning stream in controlled amounts to remove any slag build up. When using water the Multi Media SmartLance is designed to keep the thermal impact on the boiler tubes at a minimum by controlling the amount of water that is being applied to the heating surfaces. In order to ensure optimal cleaning effect and minimal thermal impact during cleaning using water, the SmartLance has been designed with two sets of water blowing nozzles. During the insertion cycle, the lead (forward pointing) water nozzles are activated by a solenoid valve supplying water to the relevant inlet at the rotating seal. The jet progression velocity (path speed of water across the pendant tube surface) is hence maintained at the optimal level where both jets impinge. Likewise, during the retraction cycle, the rear-facing (lag) nozzles are activated to clean the opposite side of the pendants in the relevant section being cleaned. The use of dual lead and dual lag nozzles is a necessity for effective and controlled water cleaning for these reasons. SmartLance- A SmartClean Product The SmartLanceTM is offered as part of Clyde Bergemanns SmartClean Boiler Cleaning Optimization System. SmartClean will make the decision which cleaning medium is best to use based on the actual cleanliness of the heating surfaces. The Multi Media SmartLance is the most effective AND SAFEST cleaning tool available for heavy-plugging super heaters. Features Cleaning Options: Normal Cleaning: steam/air: Intense Cleaning: steam/air plus water through independent nozzles Water nozzles are air purged while on steam cycle. Single or dual motor, brushless DC drives provide constant dwell time on the super heater surfaces and controls thermal shock when operated with water. Patented indexing varies the position of the nozzles each time the blower is operated for complete cleaning coverage. No blow on return travel avoids double impingement of clean wall reducing the risk of tube damage (two water nozzle arrangement only). SmartLance uses proven US dual rack-and-pinion drive components reducing the requirement of spare parts stock. Rugged assembly with maintenance friendly design concepts to improve access to all components such as gearbox and motor.
Wall blowers(Type V04 Clyde Bergemann) Blower is bolted to front plate of negative pr wall box. Run command given. Blower moves forward .Blower reaches blowing position.Blower steam valve opens.Blower rotates as per set blowing arc .After completion of rotations blower steam valve closes. Blower returns to home position. What is the role of front limit switch ? .At front end of blower is nozzle head having two opposite venturi nozzles. At home position nozzle head is in protecting wall box. Track beam is basic iron frame.Motor is flanged to a spur gear drive on the track beam.Screw tube is welded to nozzle head.Rotational motion of motor is transmitted to screw tube via chain wheels and a chain. Rotaional motion of screw tube is translated in to axial motion of blower by means of a threaded screw nut and guide placed in track beam.At blowing position , screw tube has screws itself fully in to screw nut and guide and screw tube are no longer meshing and .So no conversion of rotational motion in to axial motion and blower rotates. The screw tube moves alonf fixed feed tube.Stuffing box at the rear end of screw tube seals annular space between screw tube and feed tube and prevents leakage of blowing steam. Stuffing box requires tightening after blower has operated few times.Retightening is to be done in case of leakage. If retightening does not stop leakge , more packing rings should be inserted, other wise replace stuffing box .Stop disc fitted to the casing of stuffing box actuates blower steam valve.Throttle disc in the blower steam valve is used to adjust blowing steam pr.At the end of forward travel ,rotational motion of screw tube actuates engaging lever which operates valve lever and which in turn depresses valve stem and valve is opened.Vent valve remains open when steam valve is closed.negative furnace pr causes continuous flow of air from atmosphere into furnace through blower and prevents entry of flue gases in to nozzle head.Vent valve is closed by the pr of steam when steam valve is opened. Soot blowing can not be done if blowing steam pr is inadequate. An operating blower is retracted if blowing steam pr falls below limit. Long retractable blower (type PS-SL Clyde Bergemann) Vent valve and stuffing box are provided. At the front end of lance tube is nozzle head having two venture nozzles. The rear end of lance tube is flanged to lance hub and front end is in lance tube guide. In rest position , nozzle head is in wall box.Sliding plate of wall box seals the entry of lance tube through the boiler wall. The spur gear driven by motor has two output shafts. The drive pinion engaged with toothed rack of track beam is on one shaft(axial shaft) and moves blower axially. The other shaft (rotary shaft) causes rotation of lance tube through chain drive. The lance tube moves helically while advancing.Rear end of feed tube is fastened to a T cross piece and its front end is in lance tube.Steam valve is connected to this T cross piece.Steam pr control disc is in steam valve. The opening and closing of steam valve can be adjusted by adjusting position of trip pin on perforated bar so that steam valve is opened after nozzles have passed boiler wall while advancing and is closed before npzzles reach boiler wall so that blowing steam does not damage boiler wall.the adjustable retaining bolt on the punched strip is engaged with cam plate.Cam plate is connected to steam valve lever by means of tie rod. APH soot blowers( Type PS-AT Clyde Bergemann) Lance tube has three venture nozzles. Spur gear has only one output shaft(axial shaft) and so no helical movement of lance tube while moving. Lance tube moves forward in steps and continuously retracts.Lance tube guide is at front end of track beam to guide and support lance tube. Other things same as that of other blowers
