August 13-15 at Limketkai Atrium.


Aside from the usual competition, this 18th edition of KUMBIRA will be featuring
a new competition event for the KIDDIE (ages 7-12 years old) and JUNIOR (ages

THE longest running culinary show, Kumbira 2014, in the country has opened at a mall here on Wednesday on Friday, August
15, 2014.
Anchored on the theme Throwback at 18: Looking back cooking forward, the 3-day event aims at highlighting and
showcasing the growth and development of the culinary industry in region 10 for the past years which is organized by Cagayan
de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (Cohara).
This year, we hope to develop and improve more the craft of our participants. Hopefully, this will bring in more investors since
we have homegrown culinary talents in the city, said Nelia Lee, president of COHARA.
Security was tight for KUMBIRAs 18th year, having 31 schools, 18 establishments and six elementary and high schools
participants from Medina, Misamis Oriental, Iligan City, Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, Dipolog City, Butuan
City, Davao City, Pagadian City, Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, Surigao City and Marawi City.
Mayor Oscar Moreno, Regional Director Catalino Chan III of Department of Tourism 10 and Mr. Albino Lim along with other
government officials and guests from the private sectors were present during the launch.
Being one of the core events of the citys fiesta, KUMBIRA forges friendships among participants from all over Mindanao.
HIGALAAY means friendship. Indeed, in KUMBIRA, friendship is the very element that brings together the best of the
culinary industry and establishments, said Eileen San Juan, Local Economic and Investment Promotions officer and competition
chair, in her speech.
KUMBIRA 2014 which runs from August 13 to 15 at Lim Ket Kai Atrium will be open for the Mindanao Chef Wars, food,
beverage and hospitality services trainings and seminars.
Its food selling area features specialties from different establishments, trade exhibit featuring food products in creative
presentations, and live and display culinary competitions for professional, student kid, and junior categories.
Kiddie and junior categories
Surprises are in for KUMBIRA this year as they come up with their newest category for kiddies and juniors.
The kiddie category aged from 7 to 12 years old will be competing for Design your Own Pizza contest while 13 to 17 year-olds
will be in the Junior category competing in the Design your own Burger contest.
Both kiddies and juniors will also compete for the Mocktail Mixing Theme: Smoothies, blend your way to the bar contest.
KUMBIRA 2014 drew in a huge crowd during their launching and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
With an affordable entrance fee of P45 per day for students and 60 per day for the general public, more food lovers are expected
to arrive in and visit in the next two days.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno, Department of Tourism Regional Director, COHARA President Nelia Lee
and Albino Limketkai formally opened today Kumbira 2014, the citys premier culinary show set for 3 days at the
Atrium of Limketkai Mall.
Dozens of culinary schools, hotels, restaurants will show off their skills in various contests related to food preparation,
presentation and related aspects.
