SPEECHES/TALK

Writing Techniques:
1. There are many types of speeches such as thank-you speech, farewell
speech, introductory speech, welcoming speech and others.
2. There is a special format when writing a speech. It requires you to greet the
audience, followed by the contents of your speech and finally a thank you
at the end. Make sure you follow this format when writing a speech.
3. In your PMR examination for speech questions, notes will be provided. Use the
notes and elaborate on them.
4. You are advised to spend about 40 minutes on this question.
5. Keep to the word limit and check for mistakes by reading through your
speech.


INFORMAL & FORMAL LETTER

Writing Techniques Formal Letter
1. The tone of formal/official/business letters are serious and official. It has to be
tactfully written.
2. Formal letters should be short and concise.
3. Never use short forms in a formal letter.
Examples : Youre, theres and Id etc.
4. Use proper greetings in the salutation.
Examples : Dear Madam, Dear Sir, Dear Mr Tan etc.
5. The conclusion of formal letter is not numbered. Proper expressions must be
used.
Examples :
- I enclose herewith my testimonials and certificates and am looking
forward with anticipation for positive reply.
- Thanking you in advance.
6. Be polite and straightforward in your letter.
7. Write each point in one paragraph

INFORMAL & FORMAL LETTER

Writing Techniques Informal Letter
1. The tone of informal letters are casual and friendly.
2. Informal letters must have Beginning, Content and Ending. If there are more
than one point, the content should written in paragraphs so that the letter is
well organised.

Example Beginning of a letter

Thank you for your letter which I received yesterday. I am glad to learn
that you are in the pink of health.

Example Ending of a letter

It is nearly midnight. I have to pen off now. Hope to receive an early
reply from you.
3. If you required to write a reply to a given letter, make sure that you use the
points given. Elaborate on the points.
4. Write each point in one paragraph
