2.2 Boarding the lifeboat
3ersonnel sho'ld m'ster at their assi%ned li$e&oat station and await instr'ctions $rom the li$e&oat crew.

2.1 Securing of lifting slings
It is e2tremel( im"ortant that the li$tin% slin%s remain attached to the cra$t at all times# e!en d'rin% $ree
$all la'nch. 0he li$tin%)lowerin% slin%s m'st &e readil( a!aila&le in the e!ent that the cra$t has to &e
lowered &( the winch ca&le.
3ro"er stora%e and sec'rin% o$ the li$tin% slin%s is essential to a sa$e and s'ccess$'l $ree $all la'nch.
0here$ore it m'st &e stressed that the li$tin% slin%s are "ro"erl( sec'red. Care m'st &e ta:en to ens're
that the li$tin% slin%s are clear o$ the trac: wa( and cannot &e $o'led on an( "art o$ the la'nchin%

2.1, -peration of Sprin.ler System (tan.er (ersion only
0he li$e&oat is e;'i""ed with a s"rin:ler s(stem to "rotect it $rom $ire in case o$ &'rnin% li;'id on the
sea s'r$ace. I$ the s"rin:ler is to &e 'sed# "re"are &e$ore la'nch o$ li$e&oat. =ote that the !isi&ilit(
thro'%h window is !er( "oor when the s"rin:ler is o"eratin%# 'se com"ass to set the co'rse.
1. 0'rn handle on s"rin:ler !al!e so that it ali%ns with inlet "i"e (o"en "osition Ial!e is
located in the $orward end o$ the en%ine com"artment
2. Increase en%ine 4.3.M. to $'ll s"eed to lea!e dan%er area

2.11 -peration of /mergency 0ir System (tan.er (ersion only
0he li$e&oat is e;'i""ed with an emer%enc( air s'""l( s(stem which sho'ld &e o"erated i$ $ire or to2ic
%as conditions e2ist o'tside the &oat. I$ the air s(stem is to &e 'sed# carr( o't ste" 1 and 2 &e$ore
"assen%ers enter the &oat and ste" 9 and 4 d'rin% la'nchin%.

2.13 Steering system
On the helmsmanCs steerin% console is the steerin% wheel connected to a steerin% ca&le which is lin:ed
to the r'dderstoc: !ia a tiller arm. 52ternall( there is a r'dder noDDle which is s'""orted &( a
con!entional s:e% arran%ement. 0'rnin% the steerin% wheel "ort or star&oard will t'rn the r'dder
noDDle in the desired direction.
2.11 /mergency steering tiller
Sho'ld the "rimar( steerin% $ail# the cra$t can still &e steered &( the emer%enc( tiller. 0o o"erate this
s(stem "roceed as $ollows.
1. 4emo!e emer%enc( tiller $rom its stowed "osition and "lace o!er to" o$ r'dderstoc:.
2. Steerin% ma( now &e o"erated $rom the a$t o$ the &oat 'nder %'idance o$ the helmsman.

and mar:er li%ht. /oo: normal release is also o"erated &( the helmsman.
2.1# Starting precautions.
Startin% an( en%ine can &e dan%ero's in the hands o$ ine2"erienced "eo"le. ,e$ore attem"tin% to start
an( en%ine# the o"erator sho'ld &e $'ll( con!ersant with startin% "roced're and controls.
A 5ns're that the &atteries are in ser!icea&le condition and correctl( connected.

2.1& Chec.s before starting.

A ,atter( main switch is O=. 0he char%e control and oil "ress're li%hts will now &e on and

2.1) /ngine starting
0he normal en%ine startin% is 12 I electric controlled &( the helmsman. 0he main &atter( switch is
located on the "ort a$t &'l: head side and m'st &e t'rned to the EO=E "osition to acti!ate the s(stem.
0o start the en%ine "roceed as $ollows.
1. ,e$ore attem"tin% to start the en%ine# the
o"erator sho'ld &e $amiliar with the sa$et(
"reca'tions as descri&ed earlier.
2. Switch o$$ and disconnect e2ternal "ower s'""l(
9. 0'rn main &atter( switch to EO=E "osition
4. Chec: that $'el !al!e is o"en.

5. 3'sh in the &'tton on the throttle)%ear control le!er and "'sh le!er $orward.
+. 4e$er to the statin% "roced're o$ en%ine man'$act'rer# "ress the start &'tton# release
immediatel( when the en%ine starts. 0he alarm li%ht as well as the char%in% li%ht sho'ld
now &e o$$.
I$ the en%ine sho'ld $ail to start# d'e to "oor &atter( condition# t'rn the main &atter(
switch to o$$ "osition# mo!e :e( to emer%enc( &atter( switch and t'rn on. 4e"eat
startin% "roced're.
I$ the en%ine $ails to start within 15 seconds# des"ite %ood &atter( condition# release the
switch and in!esti%ate the ca'se. 0he starter motor sho'ld &e allowed to cool $or at
least 15 seconds &e$ore attem"tin% to restart.
7. 3'll throttle control &ac: to idlin% "osition (&'tton on side o$ control handle will "o"A
o't when le!er is in ne'tral "osition.
2.1* Stopping engine.
Mo!e control le!er into ne'tral "osition. Allow the en%ine to idle $or a""ro2. 2 min'tes to cool. Sto"
the en%ine &( "ressin% the sto" &'tton. Switch o$$ the main &atter( switch.
2.2, Fuel tan.
A diesel $'el tan: is located a$t in the &oat. A screw t("e $iller ca" is located on the inside ne2t to the
main door &e$ore remo!in% the $iller ca" alwa(s clean aro'nd it to "re!ent dirt etc. $rom enterin% the
tan:. Alwa(s re$ill the tan: a$ter en%ine has &een 'sed.
2.21 3ater and pro(isions tan.
0he water and "ro!ision tan: is located to the $ront o$ the &oat. It is recommended that the water &ein%
in sealed containers. J'antities o$ these items can &e $o'nd &elow.
2.22 /lectrical system

0he &oats electrical s(stem is "owered &( 12 I &atteries. 0o acti!ate either the main or the emer%enc(
electrical s(stem t'rn on the main &atter( switch or the emer%enc( &atter( switch.
1hen the &oat is stored in the da!it# 42 I AC "ower s'""l( is connected. 3ower is s'""lied to a d'al
stand&( &atter( char%er which con!ert this 42 I AC s'""l( to 12 I GC $or char%in% the li$e&oat
&atteries.
0he li$e&oat sho'ld alwa(s &e le$t with the main and emer%enc( switches t'rned o$$ maintain the li$e&oat
&atteries in a $'ll( char%ed condition read( $or immediate 'se.

1hen o"enin% the &atter( com"artments ma:e s're that "otentiall( e2"losi!e %ases are
!entilated. Also ne!er 'se an( na:ed li%hts.
Go not attem"t to start the en%ine 'ntil the e2ternal "ower s'""l( has &een disconnected# as
this ma( dama%e the &atter( char%er.
