Recipe for Christmas All Year Long

Take a heap of child-like wonder
That opens up our eyes
To the unexpected gifts in life
Each day a sweet surprise.
Mix in fond appreciation
For the people whom we know;
Like festive Christmas candles,
Each one has a special glow.
Add some giggles and some laughter,
A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of pie
Improves our attitude!)
Stir it all with human kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
Decorate with optimism, and
Our joy will never cease.
If we use this healthy recipe,
We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
Even when it's not December.
By Joanna Fuchs

We all know how people celebrate Halloween,

but how do people celebrate Christmas?
Everybody knows what Christmas is all about. The Catholic world
celebrates the birth of Jesus and in many countries it is celebrated in
different ways. For instance in Mexico it is celebrated with Piatas but
not so in any other Latin American countries. The celebrations are
different: from Pastorals, dances, dinners and school programs such as
Christmas programs. Gifts are exchanged among friends and family
from very expensive to small tokens of love and friendship. The stores
make a big business out of this celebration; it is a very profitable
opportunity for their sales because almost everybody wants to buy
something for someone especial. Many people make their own
handmade gifts such as gloves, caps, blouses and scarves. If someone
gives you something made by hand, it is considered a great gift.
Christmas is the season for love, and forgiveness.

Vegetarian day

Vegetarian day is celebrated every October 1st

because Vegetarianism is considered to be a green
lifestyle that more people around the world follow
each day. These people decided to change their eating
habits in order to stay healthy and avoid the suffering
of thousands of animals.
It is increasingly common to find vegetarian options in
restaurants, and even find restaurants free of
consumption of animal proteins, like Vegans who do
not eat any food that comes from an animal, including
cheese, milk, or even eggs.
Furthermore, the increasing popularity of becoming
vegetarian is supported by the idea that some studies
have shown that consumption of animal fats from
meat increases the chances of getting cancer by 40%
and increases the risk of heart disease and
constipation, digestive disorders, diabetes and
obesity.
So what is the point of eating meat? Do we really need
to kill animals to eat? Can we get fed from natural
products coming from earth? I am sure the answer is
yes! It is only a matter of changing food habits and
living for the environment and wanting to be healthy.
If we dont do it, at the end all we will have is the death
of animals and people.

Jorge Luis Diaz Calderon

Cartagena is probably the most famous city of Colombia around the world. Its
beaches, the old city, its castle and all the mystic environments of the streets of
Cartagena makes this place magic.
Nowadays Cartagena receives the majority of the tourists that visit Colombia
and especially in November is the center of attention because the National
beauty contest takes place, usually in the fanciest hotel of the city. But a big
question surrounds my head- Do the people know how important this city was
for the Colombian people and our freedom?
Well I think with all these activities the people can forget the independence of
this city and the important historical events that took place in Cartagena long
ago.

The independence of Cartagena was a process that lasted around 10 years and was declared in November 11th 1811 where the
declaration of independence as the province of Cartagena was signed, making Cartagena the first Colombian city to be free from the
Spanish kingdom and the second city of South America after Caracas in Venezuela.
As we can see, all the important places in Cartagena remain the same as the colonial period to tell the people how strong and old this
city is.
Cartagena, a magical place, the city with the most relevant history in Colombia is full of contrasts. Social issues like prostitution or
insecurity, sexual tourism and other important problems are happening and the government is responsible for the future of this
beautiful city.
As a Colombian I appreciate the beauty of Cartagena, the music festival, and all the events that enrich our culture. But please do not
forget the problems and the help that people in Cartagena need.

Why Struggle, (poem)

You dont have to do anything. On the contrary, Ive got to do it. We have to think
that we live for nothing, or that we die for something.
There are people that prefer to do peace because they cant do anything else. This
isnt everything: friends, family, love, sex, fame, fortune, money; this doesnt make you
a better or worse person, there is something more than any of these, and there are a
lot of people who pretend to be changing their minds, not knowing that were
warriors. So, we are what we are, we cant refuse where we come from. Maybe we
cant win all the battles, but if we die we will do it with honor and glory.
Id rather die, than living a whole life on my knees. I still dont know what happened
but everything turned out wrong. Nothing becomes true if you dont believe what you
are, and when you have doubts everythings over. Sometimes we have to feel afraid,
we are humans after all; when people forget your name, just a few will be by your
side. Pride and honor will always be with you.
Finally, everythings collapsing in front of our eyes. Were still hiding under a
blanket of deceit. Every morning we forget the bloodshed we face, and we pretend to
have a worthy life, where our freedom has a prize, blinded by ignorance, main
predator of our infertile minds. Were dragging ourselves to a beginning with no end,
the world will still be turning and with it a lifes opportunity.
