CAMPUSES
MUZAFFARABAD
The River Neelum divides the University Campus into two parts i.e. City campus and Chella campus. The City campus is located near the
main business centre of the city while the Chella campus stands on the bank of the river. One can taste the contrast of the hubbub of the
city life, serene and peaceful atmosphere to match ones mood. At night, the city presents a magical view. Overlooking from the top of
a mountain, the city seems a flood of lights, which captivates the viewers. Looking a little away from the city centre, the thinly scattered
lights on mountains appear like little stars and you feel for a while as if the sky has been turned upside down. The cultural life of the city
is as varied as its landscape. If you walk through the city, this contrast becomes too obvious to escape notice.

Department of Mathematics was established in 1984.
This is one of the largest departments of the Faculty of
Sciences. The Department has expanded its programs
and activities from Mathematics to Mathematical
Sciences. The mission of the department is to bring
life to Mathematics and Mathematics to life. Pure
Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Inter
Disciplinary Mathematics areas are being pursued in
teaching as well as research.
Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs
are being offered here. At all levels, students are
instructed in the rigor and precision characteristics
of Mathematical Reasoning. They are facilitated to
become acquainted with the elementary tools of
Mathematics and the techniques to use them as well
as opportunities are provided to them to acquire the
Mathematical knowledge and the reasoning skills
necessary to make effective use of Mathematics.
Many new courses including Applied, pure and
biological mathematics have been designed and
approved to highlight the beauty and applicability of
Mathematics. The aim of the Departments activities is
to help students to develop a required understanding
and appreciation of Mathematics as a creative
discipline. The library and laboratory facility also
serve for this purpose.

INTRODUCTION:
Physics (Greek: physikos) is concerned with
those aspects of nature which can be understood
in a fundamental way in terms of elementary
principles and laws; formerly called natural
philosophy. It covers the tiniest like quarks in
a proton and neutron to the largest like the
universe of which our solar system is a minute
part. Its original aim even covering this huge
range is to understand the structure of the
natural world and explain natural phenomena.
It is the goal of the Department of Physics to
contribute to the understanding and applications
of the fascinating aspects of nature and to
offer a solid and attractive curriculum to our
young graduates. The Department of Physics,
established in 1986 was initially situated at old
Campus of the University of Azad Jammu and
Kashmir, Muzaffarabad (now known as city
campus of the university). Subsequently it was
shifted to its newly constructed building at
Chehla Bandi Campus in 2003.The Department
has fine teaching laboratories one each for, Solid
State Physics, Electronics, Nuclear Physics,
Computational Physics and Spectroscopy
& Modern Physics. Besides these teaching
laboratories Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors

Department of Zoology is one of the most active departments in the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad. Zoology
as a subject is multidisciplinary in nature, involving study of organisms and their genetic, morphological and physiological attributes,
their surrounding environment, and their role in conservation of environment. Zoology is a combination of various disciplines such
as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Toxicology, Genetics, Physiology, Ecology, Developmental Biology, Microbiology,
Parasitology, Entomology, Freshwater Biology, Fisheries, and Wildlife etc. This subject has significant role in human resources
development, food security, environmental conservation, sustainable development and ultimately in alleviation of poverty.
The department has a unique feature of degree programs, as it presents a
balanced blend of the classical as well as modern trends of the new era.
These programs range from invertebrate Zoology to Biotechnology. Every
discipline has a unique importance in its place. For example, Biotechnology
is an emerging broad field that employs an industrial technology on the
biological synthesis of important compounds specially proteins, genetic
engineering of the animals etc. Microbiology represents the basic knowledge
of viruses, bacteria and micro-organisms which are mostly pathogenic and its
impact on the other related field is immense i.e. agriculture, food pollution
etc. As for as the importance of Physiology, Endocrinology and Toxicology
is concerned, every person is keen enough to know how its body work and
meets the changing demands. To keep pace with rapid advances in the health
sciences, Physiology, Endocrinology and Toxicology are very important.
Our environment plays a key role in maintaining our good health. To keep
it free form pollution caused by industrial effluent, ways of bioremediation
(removal or degradation of environmental pollutants or toxic materials
by living organisms) are applied, and for this, study of Bioremediation and
environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Biology is obligatory.

Introduction
Sociology is the scientific study of society. It covers all aspects of society like human behavior, social institutions, social action, social
change & social problems. Sociologists investigate structure of groups, organizations and societies and the way people interact within
these contexts. Since human behavior is shaped by social factors, subject matter of sociology ranges from intimate family to a hostile mob,
from the division of society on the basis
of race, gender and social class to shared
beliefs of a common culture and from
sociology of social work to that of sports.
In fact, few fields have such relevance and
scope for research, theory and application
of knowledge.
Sociology provides many distinctive
perspectives on the world, generating new
ideas and criticizing old ones. It also offers
a number of research techniques that can
be applied virtually to all aspects of social
life like emotions, family, education, street
crimes, delinquency, war & peace, etc.
Sociology is gaining more and more
importance with the passage of time
because society is becoming more
complex and new social problems are
emerging. Trained sociologists are the
need of the hour for maintaining the
smooth functioning of social systems,
social life and society.
