Program(s)/Tools:

Microsoft Word
HP 5211 Printer Scanner
PDF2JPEG.net

Objectives:
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches
work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for
your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without usingany Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

First, I started out with flipping through different magazines before I picked this image. Then, I scanned the image onto my computer, and from there, I started sketching
out ideas for the layout of the event ad. After formulating an idea, I took the sketch and applied it to Microsoft
Word, where I designed the layout. I first put down the
image onto the layout, and created textboxes for the body
copy and title. I made black boxes to frame the image.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures
your choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size.
Theme word(s)
Select good quality images

Process:

For this montage, I used Photoshop. I started out with finding the quote that I
wanted to implement into a design. I then sketched out various ideas and after deciding on one, I started laying out the design. I found an image of a street
and added a black and white mask to have a monochrome background. I then
found the image of the dancing girl and added her to the design. I added a layer mask and using various opacities, I gave the image a soft edge so that she fit
better in with the design. I then also blurred some of her edges in order to make
the image less Photoshopped. I then did the same with the umbrellas. I added
another mask to the girl and gave her a colorized mask in order to keep up the
monochrome red and to increase her hierarchy. I added the falling rain filter in a
different layer. I then added in the quote using various typography and changed
the color to red.

Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers,
and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:

I used Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop to create this project. I used paint
splatter paint brushes in Photoshop for the paint splatter. I also used Photoshop
to clip out the images that I wanted to use in my design. I used Photoshop to
also create the logo. I used Indesign to put the entire design together. I manipulated the text using the Text Wrap to make the text wrap around the images.
After printing it out, I used two rulers to make the creases and the folds in the
brochure.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal

image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator
pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an
image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image
before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to
them.

Process:

This was my first time using Adobe Illustrator. I started out with deciding on a
company, and then started creating sketches. For the top logo, I used a variety of
circles using the shape tool, and then used the pen tool to create the mountains.
I filled in all the shapes and then used the text box tool to type in the words. For
the middle logo, I used the shape tool to create rectangles to create the letters
for the logo. I also used the ellipse tool. For the bottom logo, I created an ellipse
and used the direct selection tool to manipulate the ellipse into a droplet shape.
I used a variety of ellipses to create the polar bear. I used the direct selection tool
to manipulate the shapes in all designs

Brother Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Indesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing
logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and
letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design
elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125.
Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of
white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, and email on each piece.
Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

I first started designing my logo in Illustrator. I looked up various rose pictures

to understand the general concept of the shape of roses. I then used the ellipse
tool and the direct selection tool to create the rose petals. I used the pen tool to
create the leaves, the rectangle tool to make the veins in the leaves and the width
tool to make them more realistic. I typed the font for the title, then created an
outline around the font so I could manipulate it. I deleted the vertical line in the
R to make the font more bubbly. I then took all my designs and took them into
InDesign to create the actual layout. I used a clipping mask for the back of the
business card. For the stationary, I varied opacities to create the watermark.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate
the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers
for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process:

I started out by staging and taking an original photo, with a specific color
scheme in mind. I then found a quote that I believe goes well with the photo,
then started sketching ideas. When I had formed a sketch I was satisfied with, I
started designing the layout on Photoshop. I created the circles using the shape
tool again and I also got the colors for the design directly from the photo using
the dropper tool. I used the pen tool and the text box tool to shape the words for
the colors.

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links
in InDesign intact.

Process:

I started out sketching different layout ideas for the flier. After picking a design,
I used it as a base to create the layout in Adobe InDesign. I used black boxes
under white font to create contrast. I used repeating pentagons to create a honeycomb look in the top left corner and the bottom right corner, which created
asymmetry. Then, I right aligned the body copy to align it with the boxes used in
the title. There was plenty of white space left in the design and I used the pictures, text, and logo that were given to me by this course.

Notepad + + (HTML and CSS)

Photoshop

Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is
300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals
to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors, appeal
to target audience, design skills, etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype
(provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul
(with li tags), img, hr, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided
to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list
items, the background color, font families and add at least one css comment.)
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot with
.5 inch margins for printing.

Process:

I used the programming software of Notepad + + to manipulate HTML and CSS

to create this web page. I started by choosing the logo that I had previously designed to center a web page around. I sketched a few ideas and then started
with organizing an HTML document. I created unordered lists, made headings
strong, added my logo, and then placed those into their appropriate places like
body, title, ect. I then used CSS to manipulate the design aspect of the web page.
I changed the color of the headings, the text, the border, and the background of
the body. I added a background image of falling rose petals, and set it to repeat.
