INTP

THEME
The theme of the INTP is designing, not just in the "artistic sense," but also in the
sense of the precise arrangement of all the elements necessary for objective
understanding of that part of the world that interests them. While many INTPs are
drawn to science and math, the designing can be in many other realms, and they
usually turn out to be superb strategists in whatever endeavor they take on.

Appearing arrogant and not communicating. Hurting feelings. Skepticism.
Refusing to deal with details and lack of execution.
THEY VALUE
Concepts, intelligence and ingenuity.

ON A TEAM
They work alone for the group.
MANAGEMENT STYLE
The management style of INTP is likely to be one of a visionary who communicates
the general outline of the vision, yet lets everyone do his or her own thing.
Preferring to be left alone to operate autonomously, INTPs assume that others do,
too.
IDEAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The ideal corporate structure is one in which they are allowed to solve problems,
conceptualize, and have opportunities to design, define, research and develop-and not be bogged down by systems, procedures and day-to-day routine.
VALUES
INTPs value the theoretical, wanting insight, understanding, comprehension and
knowledge. They admire genius, precision, efficiency and effectiveness. INTPs
trust logical reasoning above all else.
ATTITUDE
Expect INTPs to be skeptical of anything and everything--and yet always willing to
explore and improve on whatever exists. While they are open to new ideas, they
are skeptical of their validity, until logically proven otherwise.
GENERAL SKILLS
INTPs are skilled at analysis, seeing differences and developing categories. As
strategists, they map out all feasible events well in advance. They adapt and
improvise as means to an end; they solve complex problems, enigmas and riddles.
DRIVING FORCE
INTPs have a very high need for achievement. However, achievement is most
often measured by standards set by the INTP, not by society or the organization.
This achievement need is reflected in a constant drive for competency.
ENERGY DIRECTION
INTPs direct their energy toward acquisition of knowledge and competencies.
They are devoted to accuracy and seek it, often splitting hairs if need be. INTPs
abhor a lack of willpower; they also seek out complicated problems to solve.
AUTHORITY ORIENTATION
INTPs want the person in charge to be knowledgeable and competent. Authority is
not granted by position. They will question authority and test it, especially in their
own area of expertise.
ROLE PERCEPTION
INTPs tend to be reactive in relationships, that is, they wait for the relationship to
be defined by the other person and then respond to that definition by either
accepting it or rejecting it. They prefer to give information rather than orders.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Preferring an atmosphere of calm, INTPs may avoid conflict. When there is
conflict, they can be very tenacious and stick to their perceptions of the "right"
solution, until logically shown otherwise.
MODES OF LEARNING
INTPs learn by conceptualizing, abstracting common properties and creating
categories. They are adept at learning abstract ideas and less adept at learning by
association and rote. Learning is a lifelong reality for INTPs.
BLIND SPOTS AND PITFALLS
INTPs may overlook the human element in their quest for objective truth and
understanding. They can be bitingly critical and sarcastic and may be seen as cold
and distant. Also, they tend not to like the small talk necessary for social
situations.
