1. Description
The LPB040 is designed to house and protect up to 40 amp-hour batteries
depending on the physical size of the batteries. It is designed to work with the
LPS010-100-VC power shelf to create a complete solution for low power telecom
applications. It can be mounted in a 19 or 23 rack or on a wall. The box is made
from a solid two piece construction. It has ventilation slots and several cable entry
holes. In addition, the box comes with a 15 amp breaker to serve as a means of
disconnect from the power shelf.

Figure 1 - Battery Box

Figure 2 below shows the outside dimensions of the LPB040 with the front cover
removed. Use this figure to determine whether a particular set of batteries will fit in
the battery box.

3. Box Installation
The LPB040 can be installed in three mounting environments: 19 rack, 23 rack,
and wall mount. Although most mounting hardware comes with the battery box,
screws for the wall mount configuration are not included.

19, Mid-mount bracket installation

Find the three screw holes closest to the front of the box on each side of the
box.
With the long edge of the mounting brackets against the box (see Figure 3),
screw the mounting brackets to the side of the battery box using #10-32
screws. The holes in the box have PEM nuts.
Mount the battery box in the rack using the #12-24 screws through the holes
of the mounting brackets. The box must be within reach of the power shelf,
which will be connected by the 2.5 battery-to-power shelf cable
(CA312043511), and there must be at least 1 of clearance for the box lid.

23, mid-mount bracket installation

Find the three screw holes closest to the front of the box on each side of the
box.
With the short edge of the mounting brackets against the box (see Figure 4),
screw the mounting brackets to the side of the battery box using #10-32

Wall mount bracket installation

There are six keyholes on the back of box used to hang the box on a wall
(screws and other hardware are not supplied). The mounting brackets can be
used for additional support, but are not required. See Figure 5.
1. Choose a suitable surface such as plywood or a concrete wall.
2. Using the battery box as a template, mark the mounting hole locations
on the mounting surface.
3. Drill holes into surface based on screw size and anchors (if used) chosen.
4. Option: With the short edge of the mounting brackets against the box,
screw the mounting brackets to the side of the battery box using #1032 screws. The holes of the box have PEM nuts. See Figure 6.
5. The box then can be mounted on the wall through the holes of the
mounting brackets & rear keyholes.

4. Electrical Installation
Cable knockouts are available on each side of the battery box for cable entry. Two
of the holes are located near the front of the box on each side, and one near the
back of the box on each side. Two plastic snap-in bushings are supplied in the
hardware kit to provide cable protection. All cables to be used are shown below;
each cables part number can be found on the cable itself.

CAUTION: Use insulated tools when working with battery connections. Exposed
battery cable contacts should be covered with heat shrink tubing (not included).
The enclosure lid should be removed during installation. To replace the lid, simply
drop the two rear flanges into the corresponding slots in the rear of the enclosure.

1. Snap the bushings into the openings in the right side of the LPB040 battery
enclosure (when facing the box from the front). The front lower and rear
openings are recommended for optimal cable dressing (see Figure 14).
2. Connect the pair of alarm wires on the power cable (CA312043511) to the
breaker alarm tabs. The orange wire connects to the top tab, and the blue
wire connects to the bottom tab.

3. Connect the black negative ring terminal (labeled ) of the power cable to
the lower stud (OFF side) of the circuit breaker using one of the #10 nuts
provided.

4. Connect the 1.5 battery cable (BP0000150CD00) to the upper stud of the
circuit breaker (ON side) and secure using one of the #10 nuts provided.
5. Mount the breaker chassis to the right side of the battery box and secure it
with its two captive screws.

7. Connect batteries together using the three 1 battery cables

(BP0000100DD00) provided, as shown in Figure 12.
8. Route the 1.5 black battery cable (BP000015CD00) and the power cable
assembly (CA312043511) into the opening directly above the breaker (see
Figure 14). The red positive battery cable (marked with a +) and the temp
probe cable of the power cable assembly should also be routed into the
LPB040 box.
9. Route the six-pin connector of the power cable out the rear opening of the
LPB040 box and up into the LPS power shelf (see Figure 14).
10. Plug the connector into the battery input connection of the power shelf, as
shown in Figure 13.

11. Connect the red positive battery wire (part of CA312043511) to the
available positive battery terminal.
12. Connect the 1.5 black battery wire (BP0000150CD00) to the available
negative battery terminal.
13. OPTION: If a temperature probe (ordered separately) is to be installed,
connect the ring terminal to one of the battery terminals; then connect the
two-pin Molex-type connector to the wire pair labeled Temp Probe on the
power cable assembly (CA312043511).

14. Use the tie wraps and tie wrap bases provided to dress the cables as
desired.
The final cable routing should look similar to Figure 14. Routing the cables in this
manner allows the cables to dress cleanly around the relay rack.
