1. INTRODUCTION
These notes accompany the release of OLGA 7.0 from SPT Group. The notes describe
changes in OLGA 7.0 relative to OLGA 6.3.2, and should be read by all users of the
program. The complete program documentation consists of the OLGA Help, Installation
Guide and these Release Notes. In addition, module specific User Guides are
available.
OLGA 7.0 comes with a new graphical user interface (GUI) which provides new look
and feel features, a new diagram view and 3D visualization. Further, two new modules
are available in OLGA 7.0. The OLGA HD Stratified Flow Model is a simplified 3D
model for a three phase stratified pipe flow, and the Plug-In module is a framework for
interfacing user defined models.
The program is available on PCs with Microsoft Windows operating systems (Windows
XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7). Several versions of OLGA may be installed in
parallel.
The customer center provides useful information about frequently asked questions and
known issues. The customer center is accessible from www.sptgroup.com.
Please contact SPT Group if problems or missing functionality are encountered when
using OLGA or any of the related tools included in the OLGA software package.

OLGA HD
The OLGA HD module features the OLGA HD stratified flow model. This flow model
is based on developments in the HORIZON II project and covers stratified and large
wave flow regimes. The model is developed to provide more consistent, scalable and
accurate predictions of pressure drop and holdup for systems dominated by these flow
regimes.
OLGA HD applies a parameterized 2D velocity distribution to obtain frictions and
velocity shape factors in the cross section. Combining the 2D velocity distribution with
the 1D conservation equations yields a 3D representation of a slowly evolving flow. The
model handles 1-3 layers, and uses a generic layer model. This model is used for all
three layers. Coupling the layers yields a full three-phase model comprising a 3D flow
description at 1D evaluation speed.
Limitations
The OLGA Slug Tracking Module applies the standard flow model for stratified flow in
the numerical segments containing slug fronts or slug tails.
The OLGA HD stratified flow model is not compatible with the Complex Fluid
module(FLUID TYPE = COMPLEXFLUID).

The user may through the input define new User Defined dispersed phases (UD
phases) inside each layer and phase in the OLGA model, as depicted above.
Physical models can then be provided in a user made DLL for

The details around the DLL interfaces and physical modeling are described in a
separate document, OLGA Plug-in User Model, Numerics and Programmers guide.
The input is described in the OLGA User Manual.

PROCESS EQUIPMENT
5.2 Pumps
In OLGA 7 the previous PUMP keyword is divided into keywords for each type of
pump.
The
new
keywords
are;
SIMPLIFIEDPUMP,
PUMPBATTERY,
DISPLACEMENTPUMP and CENTRIFUGALPUMP. In addition two new pump models
are available.
5.2.1 Framo pump
A new pump type, FRAMOPUMP, is available. The pump model is developed by
Framo Engineering AS, and a library of their most common pump configurations is
available in OLGA. (OLGA-06044)
5.2.2 Pressure boost
A new simple pump is available. The pressure boost pump should be used to model a
pressure increase during design, before an actual pump is chosen. The pump gives a
specified pressure increase independent of flow, fluid properties etc. (OLGA-06899)
