Adam (Renison) is a 14 year-old schoolboy from Beeston, near Nottingham and he is also
a young local hero. He is one of the two youngsters who were finally selected in the
Neighbourhood News competition to switch on Beestons Christmas lights.
Adam was one in a list of big-hearted, enthusiastic nominated children, who are prepared to
put themselves out for others and who should be proud of themselves for that. Adam was
supported by his teachers because of the friendship and help he has shown to his
neighbour and schoolfriend Robert. Robert, also 14, suffers from a serious bone illness
which has left him in a wheelchair. The two boys became pals several years ago when
Robert and his family moved into the area. Adam collects Robert every morning to get him
to school, and pushes him home again every night.
The two friends share a love of football and regularly visit the cinema and the shops
together.
Adams mum is proud of her only son: I am so lucky to have a 14-year-old who I can
genuinely say is a really nice lad, she said. Roberts mother said they were delighted to
hear Adam had been nominated for the honour of turning on the Christmas lights. He
deserves it.
Adam was surprised at being nominated - for as far as he is concerned he is simply being a
good friend.
