About the Book Reader

HMI Version 3.2 introduces an electronic book reader based on Adobe Acrobat
that lets you easily search, view, and print out any of the CIMPLICITY HMI
documentation.
The complete CIMPLICITY HMI library of documentation is stored on the product
CD. All documents have been electronically indexed which allows the book reader
to quickly scan volumes of information and find the topics you are seeking.
Installing the Book Reader

To install the electronic book reader:
1.
Run the setup.bat file on your CIMPLICITY HMI CD. The

CIMPLICITY HMI Setup window opens.
2.
Select Install Documentation Reader from the list of

options in the CIMPLICITY HMI Setup window.
3.
Verify that you want to install Adobe Acrobat Reader v3.01.
4.
Accept the license agreement.
5.
Choose a destination location for the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
6.
When setup is complete, you have to option to review the

Adobe Acrobat Reader readme file.
Opening the Book Reader

After the electronic book reader is installed, you can select Browse
Documentation from the main CIMPLICITY HMI Setup window. The Overview
document displays initially. It contains the current list of electronic documents for
CIMPLICITY HMI and shows you how to use the Book Reader.
In addition to reading and viewing documents, you can print out any of the
documents, or portions of the documents, you wish from the book reader
If you wish, you can also purchase the hardcopy documents individually or as a
complete library from GE Fanuc.

Navigating the Book Reader

When you open the CIMPLICITY Book Reader, The Overview document displays.
The Acrobat Reader window is divided into two panes. The left pane, called the
Overview pane, displays the manual bookmarks or thumbnails. The right pane,
called the Page pane, displays the current document page.
You can press F1 at any time to display the Adobe Acrobat Reader Online
Guide. This online documentation shows you how to navigate through the on-line
books and use the Find features of the Book Reader.
Changing the Window Display

You can use the View menu to change the window display. Your options are:
Page only displays just the document
Bookmarks and page displays the document bookmarks in the
Overview pane and the current page in the Page pane.
Thumbnails and page displays the document thumbnails in the
Overview pane and the current page in the Page pane. Also,
note that the current page is highlighted in the Overview pane.
Choosing a Page Layout

You can choose a page layout option to facilitate page scrolling so that you can see
the bottom of one page and the top of another. You can use the View menu or the
Page Size button at the bottom of the Page pane to change the page layout. Your
choices are:
Single page displays one page of the document at a time in the
window.
Continuous displays the pages of the document in a vertical
column.
Continuous - Facing Page displays the pages side by side in
the window
Selecting a Page from the Bookmarks

When you look at the bookmarks in the Overview pane, you see something like this:
The
symbol means that the bookmark has multiple topics. When you click on
symbol, it changes to
the
and pick the one you want.
and you can see the titles of the additional topics
When you move the mouse pointer over the name of the topic, the cursor changes to
a pointing hand
. When you click on the topic name, the page containing that
topic displays in the Page pane.
Following Links in a Document

In the Page pane, the cursor normally looks like this:
If there is a link in the document, the cursor changes to a pointing finger
when
you move it over the link. When you click the mouse button, the linked document
displays in the Page pane.
Paging through a Document

You can use the arrow buttons on the Toolbar, your keyboard keys or items on the
View menu to page through a document.
To go to the next page, click
or press the right or down arrow,
or select Next Page from the View menu.
To go to the previous page, click
or press the left or up arrow,
or select Previous Page from the View menu.
To go to the first page of the document, click
, press the
Home key or select First Page from the View menu.
To go to the last page of the document, click
, press the End
key or select Last Page from the View menu.
Retracing Your Steps

You can use the go arrow buttons on the Toolbar or items on the View menu to
retrace your steps back through a document or series of documents for up to 64
views. Closed documents will be open as necessary.
To return to the previous page, document or magnification level,
click
or select Go Back from the View menu.
To reverse direction and return, one view at a time, to the view

where you first used Go Back, click
Forward from the View menu.
or select Go
Finding Text in a Document

You can use the Find command to find part of a word, a complete word or multiple
words in the active document. To find a word:
1.

Enter the text you want to search for in the Find What field.
3.
Select the check boxes for the type of search you want to
perform.
4.
Click Find.
When the Reader locates the text in the document it highlights it.
Once the word is located, you can press Ctrl+G or re-open the dialog box and find
the next occurrence of the text in the document.
Searching for Text in Documents

You can perform a full-text search on multiple documents with the Search tool.
You can find complete documentation on how to use the Search tool in the Adobe
Acrobat Search Online Guide. You can find this online document in the same
directory as the Adobe Acrobat Reader Online Guide.
To start searching:
1.
Select Search->Indexes from the Tools menu.
2.
The Index Selection dialog box opens.
3.
Make sure the CIMPLICITY HMI Documentation index is

selected.
Note
You should not need to select indexes to search. The CIMPLICITY

online documentation currently has only one index.
4.
Click OK to close the dialog box.
5.
button on the Toolbar or select Search->Query

Type the text you want to find in the Find Results

matches in the document.
If you close the Search Results dialog box, you can click the
Toolbar to reopen it.

Search Options
You can use the options in the Adobe Acrobat Search dialog box to expand or limit
your search. The options are:
Word Stemming expands the search to find words that share a
word stem with the work you type.
Sounds Like expands the search for a proper name by finding
words that begin with the same letter and share phonetic
features.
Thesaurus expands the search to find words with meanings
similar to that of the search word.
Match Case limits the search to find only those words that match
the case of the search word.
Proximity limits the results of simple AND searches to one pair
of matches per document. The matches must be within three or
fewer pages of each other.

options.
Boolean Searches
You can use AND, OR and NOT operators in the Find Results Containing Text
field to perform Boolean searches for combinations of text.

this.
Tips on Using the Book Reader

The CIMPLICITY HMI Book Reader uses the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Here are
some tips for using the Acrobat Reader:
There are no jumps from the Contents or Index pages of the
CIMPLICITY documentation. If you find an entry in the
Contents or Index, you can use the Find tool to find the word in
the body of the document, or to find the page number.
If you are accessing on-line documentation over a network share,
the DOC directory must be on a mapped drive (such as
X:\doc). The index will not work with a UNC path name (such
as \\computer\share\doc).
If you see books listed multiple times in your search results, it
means you have the index file loaded multiple times. To
remove duplicate index entries:
1.
From the Tools menu, select Search.
2.
Select Indexes.
3.
Remove any duplicate index entries.
