About MSADe
Description
The MSADe is the indoor unit of the WiBAS Terminal Station (WiBAS TS)
located at the customers premises. It is an advanced network device that
can perfectly meet all access requirements at a service location for a large
number of different applications.
The role of MSADe is to control the TRS (Terminal Station Radio System),
implement the baseband modem, and provide the user network interfaces.
With the support of highly developed interworking mechanisms and
sophisticated QoS features, it stands for a comprehensive gateway,
addressing the needs of demanding high-end customers.
The following schematic depicts the components and the end-to-end network
interconnection for a WiBAS system:

Safety Precautions
PROPER GROUNDING
Never power up the indoor equipment not yet connected to a proper
grounding system.
There is risk of equipment failure and/or electrical shock.
Ensure that the indoor grounding system measures a path resistance less
than 4 .
WiBAS MSADe
Installation and Cabling Manual - Edition 1.1
ESD PROTECTION
Always use proper antistatic protection (i.e. grounding bracelet,
antistatic bags, etc.) when handling the system cards.
Parts bearing the ESD sign (see left) have ESD sensitive exposed
components.

Site Prerequisites
Introduction
Site
information
This section discusses all the prerequisites prior to installing the indoor unit
of the Terminal Station.
Premises information
Site-specific information
Network port
distributors
Regarding the network ports (inclusive of Ethernet and E1) provided with the
indoor equipment, suitable network port distributors should be available.
The exact location of the network port distributors, as well as the network
ports to reserve, should be known prior to installing the indoor equipment.
Also, all the reserved ports on the network port distributors should be
qualified and tested before realizing the network connections with the indoor
equipment.

Indoor
grounding
system
All racks within the installation premises should be connected to a lowresistance grounding system. The metal body of the rack, into which the
MSADe subrack is to be mounted, should be connected to this grounding
system.
The enclosure of each subrack must be electrically connected to the racks
metal body (via a short grounding cable) to provide protection against
harmful discharge conditions.
Cable conduits
Appropriate cable conduits should exist for the routing of installed cables,
inclusive of the coaxial IF cable(s) connecting the indoor equipment with the
outdoor transceiver boxes on the buildings roof.
IF cable
The IF cable, connecting the indoor equipment (MSADe) with the outdoor
transceiver box (TRB), should be of coaxial 75-ohm type.
The maximum length of the IF cable depends on its quality and the
degradation that it imposes to the carried IF signal.
Typical lengths of IF cable are given below:
175 m, using RG-11 low-loss coaxial cable of 8.3 dB/ 100 m at 420 MHz
attenuation.
145 m, using RG-11 low-loss coaxial cable of 10.15 dB/ 100 m at 616 MHz
attenuation.

Installation and Cabling Manual - Edition 1.1
The network port distributors (optical distributors excluded) and the power
supply distributors should be equipped with the appropriate gas arresters, to
provide protection against lightning conditions.
Such conditions may induce voltage peaks on the cables, and thus disturb
the operation of the indoor equipment. For this purpose, all electrical
distributors should be connected to the local grounding system to allow the
installed gas arresters to operate.

WiBAS MSADe
Installation and Cabling Manual - Edition 1.1
To connect the IF cable, follow the steps below taking into consideration the
following Cautions:
Never connect or disconnect an IF cable when MSADe is ON
and operating!
There is risk of equipment failure.
First switch-off the MSADe and then connect or disconnect the IF
cable.
Never apply a tightening torque greater than 4,4 Nm to the
ODU receptacle of MSADe!
There is risk of equipment failure.
Use the special tool (torque wrench 4,4 Nm, HEX 11 mm) when
performing cabling to the receptacle.
Never leave the IF cable without adequate lightning
protection in sites with increased lightning possibility.
There is risk of equipment failure.
For sites with increased lightning possibility (see page 13), you
must connect the lightning arrestor (item 14 from Material List on
page 10) to the IF cable (for the lightning arrestor connection,
see page 26).
Step
1
Action
(The step is optional).
Use an 11 mm wrench to tight the angle adapter onto the ODU
receptacle on the front panel of MSADe. Do not over tight!
Use a torque wrench to tight the IF cable onto the ODU receptacle
or onto the angle adapter if you have performed step 1
(tightening torque = 4,4 Nm).

Never leave the grounding cable of the lightning
arrestor unconnected.
There is risk of equipment failure and / or electrical
shock.
Make sure you have connected the grounding cable to
an appropriate grounding point of the rack before
connecting it to the coaxial cable coming from ODU.
Connect the lightning arrestor at any point along the IF cable
taking into consideration the approximation to the station
