Chapter III
Mortar & Concrete
All measurements shall be taken to the nearest entimetre, except that thickness of slabs, partition etc. and sectional
diamensions in case of posts, columns, beams and like shall be taken to the neatrest Half c.m.
No deduction shall be made for (1) end of dissimilar materials 9eg., Joists, beams, posts, girders, rafters, purlins,
trusses, corbel steps etc.) up to 500 square centimetre in section.
(2) Opening up to 0.1 sq. mtr.
Note: In calculating area of opening up to 0.1 sq.mtr., the size of opening includes the thickness of any separate
lintels or sills. No extra labour for forming sjuch openings or voids shall be measured.
In Volume occupied by water pipes, conduits etc. not exceeding 25 sq. centimetres in cross sectional area shall not
be deducted.
Reinforcement shall be measured seperately and paid for.
In T Beam construction the floor or roof shall be taken as running continueously through, and the beams as that
portion above or below the floor or roof.
Columns shall be measured from the floor surface to the underside of the beams or slabs as the case may be.
Where columns are connected to beams by "haunchings", the columns shall be measured up to the springing of the
haungings and the latter included with the beams. Where the width of the beam is less than the width of the
Column, the extra width at junction shall be included with the beam.

Chapter IV
Brick work generally shall be in cubic metre.
Brick Work
Thickness of walling - Brick wall up to and including three bricks in thickness shall be measured in multiples of half
brick which shall be demmed to be inclusive of the mortar joints. Where fractions of half brick occur due to
architectural or other reasons, the measurements shall be taken as follows.
For Fractions of 2 cm and under
Actual Measurements.
For Fractions exceeding 2 cm.
Full Half Brick
The Following shall be taken as Half Brick Measurement. For Bricks 19x9x9cm - 10 cm.
Note: During the changeover period, the half brick size shall be deemed to be 11.2cm when the existing brick size
22.9 x 11.2 x x7 cm (nominal size) have to be used.
For Walling which is more than three bricks in thickness, the actual thickness shall be measured to the nearest one
cm.namely fractions including 0.5 centimetre and above shall be measured as one centimetre. and fractions below
0.5 centimetre. shall be ignored.
No deduction or addition shall be made on accounts for
( 1 ) Ends of dissimilar materials (ie, joists, beams,
lintels, posts, girders,rafters, purlins, trusses, corbals, steps etc) up tp 500 sq. cm. in section.
( 2 ).Openings up to 0.1 sq. metres in section.
Note: - In Calculating the area, the size of opening includes any separate lintels or sills, but not the extra width of
rebated reveals if any.
( 3 ) Wall and Bed plates, bearing, sunshade and the like. The Volume occupied by the wall plate and the like up to
10 cm. in depth
Honey comb brick walling shall be given in square metres stating the thickness of the wall and the pattern of honey
combing. Honey comb openings shall not be deducted.

Stone Work in rough arches and vaulting shall be described and measured seperately and shall include centering for spans
Facing to Arches, if different from general face work, shall be measured seperately.
When Stone Masonry is built of Cement Mortar and requires no plastering over, the pointing of the exposed faces shall be d
simultaneously, for which 0.5 extra Mason shall be allowed for 10 Sq. Mtr. Area. No regular pointing item shall be included in
these cases being not required ordinarily.

Roof Covering
Roof Covering shall generally be given in sq. metres and shall be measured net with out any allowances for

All plastering and Pointing shall be given in Sq. metres, unless other wise described.
For
Jambs, soffits, sills etc. for openings not exceeding 0.5 m 2 each in area, ends of Joists, beams, posts,
girders, steps etc. not exceeding 0.5 m 2 each in area and openings not exceeding 3 m2 each , deductons
and additions shall be made in the following manner.
(a) NO Deduction shall be made for ends of Joists, Beams, Posts etc.& Openings not exceeding 0.5 m 2
each, and NO Additions shall be made for Reveals, Jambs, Soffits, Sills etc. of these Openings, nor finishing
the plaster around ends of Joists, Beams, Posts etc.
(b) Deductions for Openings Exceeding 0.5 m 2 but not exceeding 3 m2 Each shall be made as follows and
no additions shall be made for Reveals, Jambs, Soffits, Sills etc. of these Openings.
(i)
When Both Faces of Wall are plastered, or Pointing done, deduction shall be made for one Face only. (ii)
When Two Faces of Walls are plastered with different plasters or Pointed with different pointings or if one
face is plastered and the other pointed, deduction shall be made from the plaster or pointing on the side of
Frames of Doors, Windows etc. on which the width of reveals is less than that on the other side, but No
deduction shall be made from the plaster or pointing on the other side.
In Case of Openings of area above 3 m2 each, deduction shall be made for the opening, but Jambs, Soffits
and Sills shall be measured.
Thickness shall be exclusive of the thickness of key, i.e., Grooves
or Open joints in the brick work, Stone work etc.
Ceiling shall be measured between the walls or
partitions and the dimensions before plastering shall be taken.
Width Covered by Cornice if any, shall be deducted.
Ceiling with Projected Beams shall be
measured over beams and plastered sides of beams shall be measured & added to plastering on ceiling.
The Measurement of Wall Plastering shall be taken between the Walls or Partitions (the dimensions before
plastering shall be taken) for the length and from the top of floor or skirting to the ceiling for the Height.
Depth of Cornices if any shall be deducted.
Sides of Plasters,
Projections etc. shall be added to the plaster on walls.

Chapter 12
All work falling under this head shall be given in square metres.
The
Rates for the items shall include brushing, cleaning and preparing the surface.
The
same Rate shall also apply for walls and ceilings.
For Jambs,
Soffits, Sills etc. for openings not exceeding 0.5 sq.mtr. each in area, ends for Joists, Beams, Posts,
Girders, Steps etc. not exceeding o.5 sq.mtr. each in area; and Openings not exceeding 3 sq. mtrs each
deductions or additions shall be made in the following manner.
(a) NO Deduction shall be made for ends of Joists, Beams, Posts etc.& Openings not exceeding 0.5 m 2
each, and NO Additions shall be made for Reveals, Jambs, Soffits, Sills etc. of these Openings,
(b) Deductions for Openings Exceeding 0.5 m 2 but not exceeding 3 m2 Each shall be made as follows and
no additions shall be made for Reveals, Jambs, Soffits, Sills etc. of these Openings.
(1) When Both Faces of Wall are treated with same finish, deduction shall be made for one Face only. (2)
When Two Faces of Walls are treated with different finishes, deduction shall be made from the finish on the
side of Frames of Doors, Windows etc. on which the width of reveals is less than that on the other side, but
No deduction shall be made from finish on the other side.
In case of
openings of area above 3 sq. mtrs each, deduction shall be made for the openings, but Jambs, Soffits and
Sills shall be measured.
Corrugated Surfaces
shall be measured flat as fixed and not girthed. The Quantities so measured shall be increased by the
following percentages and the result included with the general area.
Corrugated Steel Sheets
14 %
Corrugated AC sheets with large corrugations such as big six sheet
20 %
Semicorrugated AC Sheets such as Trafford sheets
10 %
The Cornices and other wall features, when they are not picked out in a different finish / colour, shall be
girthed and included in the wall measurements.
The Items shall include removing nails
and making good holes, cracks, patches etc. not exceeding 0.1 sq. mtr. each with material similar in
composition to the surface to be prepared.
