    Carl Jung developed the theory of psychological types which proposed that people have innate preferences for how they perceive information and make decisions. He identified two attitudes - extraversion and introversion - that determine how one's energy is directed. Jung also identified four mental functions - sensing, intuition, thinking, and feeling - that determine how one perceives and judges information. The combination of attitudes and functions results in eight psychological types that describe different patterns of mental behavior. Jung's theory laid the foundation for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality assessment.
