The University of Tokyo (


Tky daigaku), abbreviated
as Todai ( Tdai), is a research
university located
in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. The University
has 10 faculties with a total of around
30,000 students, 2,100 of whom are
foreign. Its five campuses are
in Hong, Komaba, Kashiwa, Shirokane
and Nakano. It is the first of
Japan's National Seven Universities,
and is considered the most prestigious
university in Japan. It ranks as the
highest in Asia and 21st in the world
according to theAcademic Ranking of
World Universities 2013.

Kyoto University

Kyoto University ( Kyto


daigaku), or Kyodai ( Kydai) is
a national university located
in Kyoto, Japan. It is the second oldest
Japanese university, one of the highest
ranked universities in Asia and one of
Japan's National Seven Universities. One
of Asias leading research-oriented
institutions, Kyoto University is famed for
producing world-class researchers,
including eight Nobel Prize laureates, two
Fields medalists and one Gauss Prize.
The university has been consistently
ranked the second best institute in Japan

since 2008 in various independent


university ranking schemes.

Osaka University
Osaka University ( saka
daigaku), or Handai ( Handai), is
a national university located
in Osaka, Japan. It is the sixth oldest
university in Japan as theOsaka
Prefectural Medical College, and one
of Japan's National Seven
Universities. Numerous prominent
scientists have worked at Osaka
University such as the Nobel
Laureate in Physics Hideki Yukawa.

Tokyo Institute of
Technology
Tokyo Institute of Technology ( Tky
Kgy Daigaku), informally Tokyo
Tech, Tokodai or TIT) is a national top-tier research
university located in Greater Tokyo Area, Japan. Tokyo
Tech is the largest institution for higher education in Japan
dedicated to science and technology. Tokyo Tech enrolled
4,850 undergraduates and 5,006 graduate students for
20092010.[1] It employs around 1,400 faculty members.
Tokyo Tech's main campus is located at Ookayama on the
boundary of Meguro and Ota, with its main entrance facing
the Ookayama Station. Other campuses are located
in Nagatsuta and Tamachi. Tokyo Tech is organised into 6
schools, within which there are over 40 departments and
research centres.

Operating the world-class supercomputer Tsubame


2.0, and taking a breakthrough in high-temperature
superconductivity, Tokyo Tech is a major centre for
supercomputing technology and condensed matter
research in the world.
Tokyo Tech is a member of LAOTSE, an international
network of leading universities in Europe and Asia
exchanging students and senior scholars. In 2011 it
celebrated the 130th anniversary of its founding.

Tohoku University
Tohoku University ( (
prior to 1945) Thoku daigaku), abbreviated
to Tohokudai ( Thokudai), located
in Sendai, Miyagi in the Tohoku Region, Japan,
is a Japanese national university. It is the third
oldest Imperial university in Japan and is a
member of the National Seven Universities. It is
considered as one of the most prestigious

universities in Japan, and one of the top fifty


universities in the world.
In 2009, Tohoku University had ten colleges
within the university, including fifteen
departments with graduate students, with a total
enrollment of 17,949 students. The university's
three core values are "Research First (
)," "Open-Door ()," and "PracticeOriented Research and Education ()."

Keio University
Keio University ( Kei
Gijuku Daigaku), abbreviated as
Keio () or Keidai (), is a
Japanese university located
in Minato, Tokyo. It is known as the
oldest institute of higher education
in Japan. Founder Fukuzawa
Yukichi originally established it as a

school for Western studies in 1858


in Edo (now Tokyo). It has eleven
campuses in Tokyo and Kanagawa. It
has ten faculties: Letters, Economics,
Law, Business and Commerce,
Medicine, Science and Technology,
Policy Management, Environment
and Information Studies, Nursing and
Medical Care, and Pharmacy.
The alumni include Japanese prime
ministers and prominent political,
administrative, legal, medical and
corporate leaders. In particular,
alumni of the Faculty of Economics
has had significant influence on
Japanese business world. Keio ranks
third in the world for the number of
alumni holding CEO positions in
Fortune Global 500 companies. It

also ranks 9th in the world in the


Times Higher Education's Alma Mater
Index. The university is one of the
Japanese Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports,Science and
Technologys thirteen "Global 30"
Project universities.

Kyushu University
Kyushu University ( Kysh
Daigaku), abbreviated to Kyudai ( Kydai),
is a Japanese public university located
in Fukuoka, Kyushu. It is one of Japan's
National Seven Universities (The others
are Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, The
University of Tokyo, Nagoya University, Kyoto
University and Osaka University). The history of

Kyushu University can be traced by medical


schools of the feudal domains built in 1867, and
now it is the largest public university in Kyushu.
There are 1,292 foreign students (as of May 1,
2008) enrolled in the University. It is among the
top 3 (after Tokyo University and Osaka
University) destinations for foreign students.
The Faculty of Law, Kyushu University initiated
English language course LL.M program in
October 1994, which is the earliest in Japan.

Nagoya University
Nagoya University (

), is a Japanese national

university headquartered
in Chikusa-ku, Nagoya. It is
one of Japan's National
Seven Universities.

Hokkaido University
Hokkaido University (
Hokkaid daigaku), or Hokudai (
), is one of the national

universities of Japan. It is a member


of the National Seven Universities,
which were established as the best
national higher education or research
institute. It is located in
downtown Sapporo, just north
of Sapporo Station, and stretching
approximately 2.4 kilometers
northward. It is considered as one of
the top universities in Japan.

University of Tsukuba

University of Tsukuba ( Tsukuba


daigaku), one of the oldest national universities
in Japan, is located in the city of Tsukuba,Ibaraki
Prefecture in the Kanto region of Japan. The
University has 28 college clusters and schools
with a total of around 15,000 students (in 2003).
The main Tsukuba campus covers an area of 258
hectares (636 acres), making it the largest single
campus in Japan.[3]
It is famous for research in physics,
economics, physical education and social
science. Its Graduate School of Life and
Environmental Sciences is represented on the
national Coordinating Committee for Earthquake
Prediction.The university is one of the Japanese
elite institutions of higher education as part of
the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology's thirteen "Global 30"
selected Project universities.
