    TheaimindrawingupasinglelistwastobeinlinewiththeterminologyoftheSanitaryandPhytosanitaryAgreementoftheWorldTradeOrganization,
    byclassifyingdiseasesasspecifichazardsandgivingalllisteddiseasesthesamedegreeofimportanceininternationaltrade.
    Inordertocreateasinglelistofnotifiablediseases,theOIEdefinedcriteriatoexaminetheinclusionornotofagivendiseaseintheOIEsinglelistthat
    wereapprovedinMay2004.
    In2005,thefirstsinglelistcomposedofformerlistsAandBwasused,andinthesameyear,anAdHocGroupondiseaseandpathogenicagents
    notificationwasorganizedtoexaminediseasesaccordingtotheadoptedcriteriaforlistingdiseases,andproposedanewlistofdiseasesmeetingthe
    criteriathatenteredintoforcein2006.
    ThelistisreviewedonaregularbasisandincaseofmodificationsadoptedbytheWorldAssemblyofDelegatesatitsannualGeneralSession,the
    newlistcomesintoforceon1Januaryofthefollowingyear.
    Foryear2016,thelistincludes118animaldiseases,infectionsandinfestations.
