Accessory drives
Getting power from an aircrafts engine to
accessories and aircraft systems is our
business. Triumph Gear Systems has been
meeting this challenge for years,
proving to be an innovator in the design
and manufacture of accessory drive gearboxes, both engine and airframe mounted.
Our accessory drives use precision high-speed
gears developed and manufactured on site.

The design group at Triumph Gear Systems

utilizes state-of-the-art tools for design,
analysis, collaborative development and
verification. Our world-class facilities are
dedicated exclusively to develop and support gear systems.

Airframe mounted accessory drives

(AMADs) Every Triumph Gear Systems
accessory drive is built to the highest
standards of precision and reliability.
The AMAD provides power for the aircrafts
hydraulic pumps, auxiliary fuel pumps
and electrical generators. It also provides
engine starting capability by transmitting
power from auxiliary power units.
Our AMADs incorporate carburized and
ground gearing and, if the specification
requires, AGMA Class 14 standards. Each
drive is designed for high power
density to minimize weight. Special features
such as self-pressurizing lubrication
systems assure proper operation at all
altitudes within a given flight envelope.
The AMADs also contain a disconnect
feature which allows ground crews to
disconnect the unit for maintenance and
performance of electronic and hydraulic
systems checks without the engine running.

(EMADs) Our EMADs are manufactured with similar care and precision,
using Triumph Gear Systems or customer
designs to meet the engine manufacturers
specifications. Low profile casings help
minimize engine frontal area and facilitate
engine installation. EMADs provide power
for fuel pumps, alternators, and lubricant
and scavenge pumps. Triumph Gear
Systems contributes to prototype EMAD
design and manufacture, such as for the
F119 and YF120 engines. Triumph Gear
Systems EMADs have also gone into service on many military and civilian engines.
Every AMAD and EMAD contains balanced
and detuned gearing and shafting, thus
reducing the probability of detrimental gear
vibration. All units are designed with
features that manage high lubricant
temperatures and high pitch line velocities
of rotating members.
Our AMADs and EMADs are rigorously
tested. For example, the F/A-18 drive
designed and manufactured by Triumph
Gear Systems has been successfully
endurance tested for more than 7,800
hours in tests that continuously repeat simulated mission profiles including start-up,
taxi, flight and shut down.

A history of excellence
Triumph Gear Systems has been serving
the needs of the aerospace industry since
the early 1940s. Our strength in propulsion and accessory drive transmissions is
matched by our experience in the development of hundreds of actuation designs,
including utility applications, high lift systems and flight trim actuators.

Experience + expertise = solutions!
