OBJECTIVE OF THE LESSON:

1. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE SENTENCES WITH THE PRESENT PERFECT
TENSE.
2. STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY VERB FORMS USING THE WORD LIST ON THE
TEXTBOOK.

The T reviewed about their last class first, by asking what they learned yesterday.
She matched the Ss groups of three and told what pages they would go through. The T gave
directions to the Ss to discuss with their partners what they could find in the given page. They
had to find sentences with present perfect, and they discussed about where the verbs in third
form were in the passage. After the discussion, the T wrote some sentences using present
perfect tense on a white board, saying about the third form. She wrote present, past and third
forms of the regular words first and wrote irregular words later, such as 'visit-visited-visited,
eat-ate-eaten. The T and the Ss read explanations of the irregular verbs on the book together.

She asked to the Ss to find irregular verbs on a different passage. During the Ss'
reading, she gave post-its to the Ss to mark the pages. The T asked the Ss to present what
words they found and those groups of the students presented their works. After presentations,
the T talked about some vocabulary rules such as changes in 'o-a-o' forms in a word 'become'
(became-become-become). The T also talked about the words form changes such as 'read',
which have same spelling but sound differently. Also, she mentioned the words which have
the same spellings and same sounds like 'hit', 'cut', 'hurt'. During this time, the T wrote those
words which were mentioned by her on the white board. Moreover, she gave several quizzes
to check the Ss' comprehension, using fill in the blanks about verbs' change. When one of the
Ss asked to the T about how they could learn those change, she said that the only way to learn
it was just practicing and using them. After this section, the T mentioned other pages that
they learned before and the Ss could go to the pages easily, by using the teacher's post-its. At
the page, there were some quizzes and the Ss started to solve them. They matched the
answers of them in their groups and the T gave feedback during the time.
At the next phase, the T asked to the Ss what they did with using the present perfect
tense. She wrote the question sentence, and the reply of it on the board. She said they need to
watch out the pronunciation of some words and the order of helping verbs and main verb. She
also mentioned about 'ever'. She wrote a line with 'since' on the board to let them understand
the concept of the present perfect tense. The T asked the Ss to make sentences without using
wordbooks that the Ss used for finding the verb change. She gave a topic: computer. The Ss
talked with their group and the T looked around the groups and gave feedbacks.
Next, they used a handout. The T and the Ss started to talk about examples. In the
handout, there were some words, word phrases, and two characters living in South America
and North American. There were several blanks in two passages of both characters

experiences. The teacher made the students fill the blanks with proper words. The Ss matched
them with their groups after solving them. The T wrote what they presented in the broad to
check the spelling of the words and grammars. Next, the T talked about how to make the
question sentences using the present perfect tense and how to make negative sentences using
it. The T gave some example sentences and make the Ss practice by solving the fill in the
blanks quizzes on the hand out.
Before the class finished, she mentioned what they learned that day, and made the Ss
remember about their home works.

Observation Notebook
What did you learn about teaching or learning from this lesson? Discuss your observation
focus, and the theory you have studied in your TESOL classes. Consider the three levels of
teacher reflection (surface, pedagogical, critical). (100-200 words)
The teacher used many group works as possible as she could. The students could
learn present perfect by discussion from their partner, if they didnt remember the grammar
term. This group activity in the warm up part would be useful because the students could
review their knowledge before listening to the teachers explanations. Also, as a student, I
know the difficulty about learning the third forms of irregular verbs because there is no rule
in their changing. However, the teacher tried to teach the students who were in the lower
level, by giving examples such as changes in 'o-a-o' forms in a word 'become' (becamebecome-become). It would help the students to grab a chance to understand the irregular
verbs.
What activities/techniques from this class do you want to remember for your own teaching
practice? Discuss specific ways in which you could apply the techniques and methods you
saw. Discuss your future teaching environment and your students needs and goals. (100200 words)
I will use the warm up activity for my future class. However, I will match the
students according to their grades, not with their neighbors. It is because I believe Vygotskys
theory that the group works between the students, who are in the lower level and the higher
level, would benefit the both levels. Therefore, I will mix the students by their levels in group
works or pair works. However, dividing the students into their level might give stress to the
students, so I will do it secretly. I will make the groups before the class started, and I will call
their names in the classroom to make groups or pairs.
