~ANNOUNCEMENTS~
Frank May announced that the Rotary
Foundation Day at Golden Gate Fields
event will be held this Saturday,
November 19th. Eighteen club members
and their spouses and friends plan on
attending. President Kevin said he will
think of us as he attends the Big Game
at Berkley on Saturday.
Our Moraga Rotary Holiday Party will be
held on Tuesday evening, December 13th
at the Miramonte Gardens Clubhouse.
Please confirm your reservations to John
Tomei at [email protected] (cell 925216-4476). Checks for $60 per person
should be made to the Moraga Rotary
and sent to Lad Lynch.
Rotary International President, John
Germ, will speak at the Doubletree Hotel
in San Jose on January 3rd. Mark this
date on your calendars. More information
later.
Gary Irwin announced that the National
Geographic Program, Continent 7:
Antarctica will air at 10PM Tuesday
evening. Gary and Carol made the trip on
which this program was filmed.
~PLAYGROUND REPORT~
Kevin Reneau and John Erickson
presented our project to Lafayette
Rotary last evening. Kevin said that
the presentation was well received.
Tonight, a presentation will be made to

the Moraga Community Foundation


also seeking support.
Please take some of our project
brochures and give them to your
friends and acquaintances every little
bit helps us to our goal.
Outbound Exchange Student
Introduced to Club
Vasch Gerber, along with her father,
Nick Gerber, visited our club today.
Vasch has been accepted as a Rotary
exchange student in Taiwan in 2017.
Moraga Rotary is her sponsor. Rich
Render has worked with Vasch and
her family to get this opportunity setup.
We look forward to sharing this
adventure with her over the next year
or so.

Dick Vance celebrated a birthday on


November 3rd by going out for dinner and
spending a few days in Carmel. He also
offered happy bucks for his granddaughter
making the Campo JV soccer team as a
freshman.
Bob Fritsky was happy about his wife
Jeanettes election to the Moraga City
Council. The results will not be official for
a few days.
Vickie Devlin was happy that her
granddaughter
is
a
TV
weather
spokesperson this week.
November Employee of the Month
Fire Chief, Stephen Healy offered a short
update on the Moraga Orinda Fire
Department before introducing this
months award recipient, Captain Dan
Dick. Stephen highlighted the opening of
the new fire station. He also noted that
fires were down this summer.

~RECOGNITIONS AND HAPPY BUCKS~


Lad Lynch celebrated his 84th birthday
with a dinner out in Lafayette.
Tony Schoemehl took a trip to Kansas
City to see some old fraternity brothers.
Tony spun the wheel and paid $20.

Captain Dan Dick runs a paramedic


engine company for the department. He
also provides administrative committee
support for the department.
Before
becoming a fireman, Dan worked with
youth offenders in a home setting. Dan
emphasized that he works as part of a
three-man team that includes Don
Winston
and
Chris
Matthews.
Congratulations, Dan!!

The lucky ticket today was held by David


Kruegel. He tried for the jackpot but had
to be satisfied with $10.
~~PROGRAM~~
Our speaker today
District 5160
Governor, Fred Collignon, was
introduced by Kevin Reneau. Fred is
a member of Berkeley Rotary and is
also a professor at Cal.
Fred started by awarding several
certificates for work on club projects.
The first was to Kevin Reneau for the
clubs achievments with Polio Plus.
Youth program awards were given to
Rich Render and Debbie Roessler for
their work with scholarships, exchange
students and school clubs.
Cliff
Dochterman was also awarded a
certificate for his work with the Boy
Scouts.

projects that came up in an earlier
discussion with our board.
Fred went on to discuss youth
programs and the desire of young
people to do side-by-side work with
Rotary Clubs. Students want to learn
about Rotary and the work that we do
both locally and internationally. They
want to be mentored to help them
make career and life choices. They
also want Rotarians to approach their
parents and family about getting
involved in Rotary as well.

Speakers at this event will include Cliff
Dochterman, Brad Howard, and Rita
Moreno. So put March 24 26 on

Fred went on to ask our club to
document what we do for the

club on the progress of our Polio Plus
efforts.
With our impending success with polio
eradication and the celebration of
District 5160s centennial we must be
ready to tell our story to prospective
new members.

Fred congratulated Moraga Rotary on


our efforts and extolled us to keep up
the good work!

I was impressed in our meeting this week

our exchange student, Vasch Gerber, and

Dick. It is wonderful to see our tables

Rotary.
